Most T-Mobile and AT&T users claim coverage in rural areas is lacking

Most of you think that coverage in rural areas is much worse than coverage in urban areas.

T-Mobile vs AT&T
Recently, a report came out that claimed that T-Mobile misused funds the most, funds that were intended for developing infrastructure in rural areas. The report also claimed that AT&T was doing the same thing. T-Mobile has refuted the claims, and said that urban and rural development gets the same priority.

However, you don’t seem to think that is the case.

Most of you say rural coverage is lacking

In a recent poll, most of you said that, in your experience, 5G coverage in rural areas is lacking. 77 percent of you say that coverage in rural areas falls behind coverage in urban areas, with commenters claiming that this was common knowledge.

Less than six percent of the voters think that coverage in rural areas is great, and almost 18 percent of you believe that it’s fine, but not on the same level as coverage in urban areas.

How do you find FWA coverage in rural areas?

Are rural customers just out of luck?

It’s hardly news that service in rural areas is lacking. This has been true for all sorts of connectivity options away from the cities. Good internet service is hard to come by out there, and T-Mobile and AT&T’s coverage is no exception.

Whether funds are being misused or not is difficult to say for certain, nor is it my place to say so. But, it’s a fact of country life that you will have much poorer quality coverage than that found in the cities. It’s not just about profitability, either: it’s a lot more difficult to reliably cover large rural areas.

Satellites might be the answer

Fortunately, the push for satellite-powered coverage will likely end these problems sooner or later. Options like Starlink are already taking off around the world, and they’re only going to get more affordable as the infrastructure improves.

Meanwhile, T-Satellite — and similar upcoming offerings from AT&T and Verizon — should soon ensure that every square foot of the country has reliable coverage. It’s starting slow with text messaging, but I think that it’s only a matter of time before high-speed internet is offered via T-Satellite and competing services as well.
