Long gone are the days when Spotify was just a music streaming service. Three years after first adding audiobooks to its Premium subscription in some markets, they’re now coming virtually everywhere.
Audiobooks on Spotify will be available globally by the end of the year
Spotify today announced it’ll expand its audiobooks section globally by the end of 2026. The company will allow users in over 180 markets access to more than 350,000 titles.
Alongside the geographic expansion, the company is also launching new catalogs in over 120 new languages, including Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Polish, and more. The company says the expansion will give more than 750 million users the ability to stream or purchase books on its platform.

There are still some caveats
The Page Match feature got an update. | Image by Spotify
Spotify will provide access to audiobooks in several ways, which will depend on the market. This includes direct sales through the app, as well as two different modes of streaming access.
Some Premium subscribers will get 12 hours of audiobook listening every month with their plan for no extra cost. This option will be limited to some markets, including Italy, Spain, Brazil, Colombia, Peru, Chile, Poland, and more.
Another type of subscription is the Audiobooks+ addition. Users across the globe will be able to add more listening time with this add-on, but it will also be the primary way to get audiobook access in some markets. Those include Argentina, as well as markets across Africa and Asia.

Spotify has some nifty features for audiobook listeners
In its announcement, Spotify also said that its Page Match feature will work in over 30 languages and it’s getting page number support. With this, readers will be able to scan their book’s ISBN code and use page numbers to find their place in the audiobook edition of the title they’re reading in a paper or e-book format.
Spotify also said that monthly book readers grew nearly 40% over the past year, while listening hours increased by over 30%. With the expansion, these numbers are certainly going to grow even more.
With the Audiobooks+ add-ons, Spotify is trying to give a fix for one of the biggest complaints users on Reddit have with its audiobook experience. Premium users get only 15 hours of audiobook listening per month, which is often far from enough to finish even one book.
The only type of audiobook I have ever enjoyed were several non-fiction books, which I treated like podcasts. While I can’t see myself switching away from my beloved Kindle anytime soon, I could give audiobooks another chance if they’re part of a subscription I’m already paying for.
Still, I’d much rather to have a music-only version of Spotify that won’t blast me with podcasts and audiobooks I’m not interested in all the time.
