Popular social media app now answers the one question on everybody's mind

I know I've asked this question myself many times during the course of one day.

It is the question of our times. You are perusing your social media feed and after viewing a particularly hard-to-fathom video, the question many ask rolls right off your tongue. "Is this real or AI?"

Instagram is one of the world's most popular social media sites

One of the most popular social media apps, and in fact, second only to its stablemate Facebook with over two billion monthly active users, Instagram has launched a new AI labeling policy that answers your question. The actual news is that Instagram is changing its "AI creator" label  to a label that says "AI-generated profile." The goal is to give the user a better understanding about whether the content and person they are viewing on the platform are real or AI-generated.

Why Instagram created an AI creator label

The announcement from the Meta-owned Instagram said that the reason for the label change is to "make it more clear to people when a profile features an AI-generated person rather than a human." Instagram said in its announcement that it heard that people don't like seeing a profile about someone that seems real only to discover later that no such person exists.

Subscribers not following the rules will have the reach of their content limited

Instagram subscribers who don't follow the new labeling rules will have their profile's reach limited by the platform. They may find their profile unable to appear in recommendations. This punishment can be reversed if the subscriber adds the AI-generated profile label so their profile matches their AI-based identity. Another option the Instagram user has is to appeal the decision made by Instagram.

Why the purchase of Instagram is considered a steal

If it is determined that the restrictions were incorrectly placed on the creator, the profile and the content will no longer be restricted.

The purchase of Instagram by Facebook in April 2012 turned out to be one of the most profitable tech-related transactions of all time. Some third-party valuations have Instagram valued at more than $114 billion. Originally known for its photo filters and editing capabilities, the platform (with a little help from Snapchat's "Stories" feature), has matured (perhaps that is the wrong word when discussing a social media app) to become an online destination favored by many.
