iPhone Duo buyers on T-Mobile are discovering they'll get a worse deal than iPhone 18 Pro owners

AT&T is already offering more, and Galaxy Z Fold 8 buyers got far more.

iPhone Duo buyers on T-Mobile may get less help than iPhone 18 Pro buyers did. A T-Mobile listing for Apple's first foldable offers $1,000 in total trade-in credit, which is $200 below the iPhone 18 Pro's up to $1,200 deal and far from what the Galaxy Z Fold 8 got.

T-Mobile's iPhone Duo trade-in offer shows up early

A subscriber in Reddit's r/tmobile community shared the offer, which comes from Apple's own carrier checkout. It lists $1,000 in total trade-in credit on the Experience Beyond 2.0 plan for new and existing customers, which brings the Duo down to $27.75 a month over 36 months.

I checked Apple's carrier offers page myself, and the T-Mobile listing is there, along with a $1,200 credit from AT&T. Verizon isn't listed yet.

It should be noted that T-Mobile hasn't announced its Duo deals yet, so these numbers could change before pre-orders open on October 16. Some commenters think the listing is just the iPhone 18 promo carried over as a placeholder, though most of the 80-plus replies focus on the same complaint: the Duo gets less than the iPhone 18 Pro.

Why a $1,000 credit stings more on a $1,999 foldable

The iPhone Duo starts at $1,999, so the credit covers about half of the phone. On the $1,199 iPhone 18 Pro, T-Mobile's credit made the phone free, which is what made those "On Us" deals so easy to sell.

AT&T customers come out ahead here, since AT&T's $1,200 Duo credit matches what it offers on the iPhone 18 Pro. The bigger contrast is Samsung, as T-Mobile offered up to $1,900 off the Galaxy Z Fold 8 with a trade-in and a new Experience Beyond line, according to this report.

Commenters believe Samsung helped pay for that discount and Apple won't, which would explain the gap. That's a guess, but if it's true, Fold 8 owners have little reason to feel left out.

It also helps to know how that $1,000 actually reaches you. T-Mobile doesn't take it off the price at checkout. Instead, you finance the phone and the credit arrives as 36 monthly bill credits, which can take up to two bill cycles to start.

Per T-Mobile's own fine print, if you cancel your account before all 36 credits post, the credits stop and the rest of the phone's balance is due. Paying the phone off early ends the credits too, so the full $1,000 only lands if you stay for three years.

Who should hold off on T-Mobile's Duo deal

If you're on Experience Beyond and set on the Duo, the $1,000 is real money, but it ties you to T-Mobile until late 2029. Commenters on older plans like Go5G Plus couldn't find a Duo offer at all.

The iPhone Duo deserves a better carrier offer

I understand why T-Mobile wouldn't hand out Fold 8-level credits without help from Apple, especially if early Duo supply is as tight as expected. Still, offering less on a $1,999 foldable than on a $1,199 iPhone is a hard sell to the people most excited about it.

I'm hoping this listing turns out to be a placeholder, and that T-Mobile's real Duo offer lands closer to AT&T's $1,200 when pre-orders open.
