The iPhone Air 2 deserves your attention just as much as Apple's foldable, new leak suggests

If all of that is true, I might just give Apple's slim flagship a chance.

When Samsung launched the Galaxy S25 Edge, I thought this was the most pointless release ever. Then, Apple responded with its own ultra-thin model, the iPhone Air, making it seem like slim phones were becoming the next big thing.

Apparently, Samsung didn't seem convinced by the sales of its ultra-thin flagship and reportedly has no plans for a second generation. However, Apple is doubling down, and its rumored iPhone Air 2 is expected to be the world's only slim flagship next year.

Now, thanks to a fresh leak, we have a much better idea of what to expect.

Big upgrades reportedly on the way

One of the most established tech leakers, Digital Chat Station, has just shared a list of rumored specs for the iPhone Air 2 on Weibo, suggesting Apple is tackling some of the first generation's biggest flaws.

First of all, the device is rumored to feature a dual camera setup: a 48MP main plus an ultra-wide sensor on the rear. If you recall, the iPhone Air packs a single rear camera, a decision not everyone was happy with.

Battery life is reportedly getting an improvement as well. The leaker claims Apple will equip the iPhone Air 2 with a 3,500mAh battery, up from the 3,149mAh cell found in the first-generation model.

While it's too early to determine whether these will be the final specs, Digital Chat Station has a solid track record when it comes to smartphone leaks.

The rest of the package looks pretty good

Beyond the camera and battery, Apple is reportedly sticking with the same display formula for another year. While it's unclear whether the company will reuse the panel from the first generation, Digital Chat Station claims the display size will remain largely unchanged.

According to the leak, the iPhone Air 2 could feature a 6.55-inch OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate.

More importantly, the leaker suggests the upcoming slim flagship might be equipped with an A20 series chip, built on the 2nm process. This could be either the A20 or the A20 Pro, the latter of which is expected to debut in the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max this fall.

What users are saying

Despite my hesitation toward slim phones, the first iPhone Air was met with enthusiasm in the tech world. Online reports indicate most early adopters have fallen for the thin build, with most explaining the battery life wasn't actually too bad despite the battery capacity.

While some have expressed concerns about the single rear camera, the iPhone Air appears to have become a successful addition to the iPhone lineup.

Moreover, an Omdia report indicates that Apple shipped 84.3 million smartphones in Q4 2025, up 9% year over year, while increasing its market share from 23% to 25%. The growth most likely isn't directly connected with the iPhone Air, but it does show Apple continues to strengthen its position in the global smartphone market.

An exciting release

Will the iPhone Air 2 stand out next year? I believe so, especially if Apple ends up being the only company offering an ultra-thin flagship. If it successfully addresses the two biggest concerns surrounding the iPhone Air, I have every reason to believe the upcoming model will become a winner.

The biggest challenge for Apple, in my opinion, will be preserving the design. With so many users praising the thin build, the company will have to ensure the larger battery and dual-camera setup won't add bulk.
