Apple’s broken promise for a personalized version of Siri is one of the largest blunders in the company’s history. After announcing a major AI deal with Google, the company may be on its way to rebound and challenge the leading chatbots on the market.
Siri may turn into a built-in chatbot in iOS 27
Apple plans to revamp Siri and turn it into an artificial intelligence chatbot to compete with ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude, reports Bloomberg. This Siri chatbot, codenamed Campos, may be deeply integrated into iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27, and replace Apple’s current voice assistant.
Despite testing it as a standalone app, Apple doesn’t plan to offer the Siri chatbot in app form. It may be available through the “Siri” wake word or by holding down the side button on an iPhone or iPad. Powered by a custom model based on Google Gemini, the chatbot may have far-reaching functionalities, a custom UI design, and support natural language conversations.
Campos could have the basic capabilities of modern chatbots, including the ability to search the web, summarize information, generate content, help with coding, and analyze uploaded files. Unlike its competitors, Apple’s chatbot will have access to personal data on the device to complete tasks and will be able to view on-screen content and adjust device features and settings.

Siri will be integrated into all Apple apps, including Mail, Photos, Messages, Music, and TV. That would allow users to use voice commands for specific tasks, such as asking the chatbot to write an email about a specific calendar event. Campos’ advanced capabilities may allow Apple to jettison Spotlight.
One of Apple’s concerns is related to how much the Siri chatbots will remember. The company may limit Siri’s memory much more than competing chatbots for privacy purposes.

No, I don’t care about AI on my phone

That update to Siri will be an upgrade to the personalized version of the assistant that Apple is expected to launch with iOS 26.4. The company plans to unveil its chatbot during its Worldwide Developers Conference in June and make it the key feature of its upcoming operating systems. That would help the iPhone 18 Pro models challenge the Galaxy S26 series and the recently revealed new version of Bixby, which is part of One UI 8.5.
Still only a rumor
After the embarrassing delay of the more personalized Siri, Apple needs a giant comeback. Launching a deeply integrated chatbot that allows users to do almost anything they want on their iPhone with only voice commands is such a comeback. As skeptical as I am about generative AI, I’m rooting for Apple because that would be a fun set of features to play with.
