In only a few weeks the Galaxy Z Fold 8 turned into one of the most successful foldable smartphones ever made, mostly thanks to its wider form factor. However, the great run may be coming to an end as owners of the device are reporting a bizarre issue with its internal display.
Users report a potential issue with the Galaxy Z Fold 8 internal display
Early owners of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 have reported a disturbing issue with the internal display of their devices. Several users on Reddit, as well as a few people on Samsung’s EU Community and Korean leaker yeux1122 (translated source), say the corners of the foldable display on their devices have noticeably more give than the rest of the display.
The reports say that the display sinks much more when pressed in the corners than in other parts, making it feel like there isn’t anything to support it from below. Leaker yeux1122 said in a post that the issue appears more often on the upper right side of the display, though some users report it in all four corners.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the Z Fold 8 Ultra come with Samsung’s new Flex Titanium display, which was engineered to increase its durability, make it more stiff, and minimize the crease. This has allowed the display to feel much more sturdy and similar to the ones on normal slab phones.

Considering this issue is only present in the extreme edges of the display, there could be a logical explanation for it, which wouldn’t be a signal of a more serious defect. One redditor suggested this could happen because of pads in the corners of the display, which are used instead of glue, making it more of a feature than a problem.

Based on screenshots from a JerryRigEverything teardown video, this suggestion doesn’t explain why only some devices experience the extra give in the corners. Multiple users have reported that the displays on their devices feel as stiff and sturdy in the corners as in other parts.
In our in-depth review of the Galaxy Z Fold 8, my colleague Victor was impressed with the feeling and the performance of its internal display. He said it had much less give, and it truly felt sturdier and similar to what he called “a real phone.” He never reported any issues with the display of the unit he tested.

Samsung hasn’t addressed the issue, nor has it confirmed this is something normal for the phone. It’s also unknown if this affects the IP48-rated water resistance and large particle protection of the Z Fold 8.
While the videos with bending displays look worrisome, the issue doesn’t appear to be widespread. There are only a handful of reports about it, and many users say they can’t reproduce it on their units. This could mean the problem is limited to a specific batch of units.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra uses the same foldable display technology, but there aren’t any reports about it experiencing the same bending, further suggesting this is something isolated. Considering how popular the Z Fold 8 turned out to be, it’s hardly surprising that some owners are facing what could be a limited production defect.
Samsung should address the problem
Even if we accept these reports are only a few isolated cases, Samsung should address them as quickly as possible and explain what caused the bending displays in the first place. I wouldn’t worry too much about the overall build quality of the Z Fold 8, but considering the $1,899 starting price, it’s only natural for potential customers to be extra careful.
