You might receive your share of Apple's $250M settlement earlier than expected
The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California has moved ahead the timeline for approving Apple's $250 million settlement.

Remember that $250 million class-action settlement that Apple put together to settle a lawsuit over the delay of Siri AI? Each iPhone owner with a legitimate claim might receive as much as $95 for each iPhone purchased in the US between June 10, 2024 and March 29, 2025. Eligible iPhone models include:

Those who submit a valid claim are expected to receive a payment from the fund valued between $25 and $95. The final amount of each check that claimants will receive depends on the number of verified claims received by the court. As you probably already figured out, the fewer the number of claims that are submitted to the court, the more money each check will be written for.
Court moves date of final approval six months closer from September 2027 to February
The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California has moved up the date of the final court approval of the $250 million settlement from September 29, 2027, to February 24, 2027. That means final approval of the settlement could happen about six months earlier than originally scheduled.
Apple will be sending out notices via email and snail mail to eligible iPhone customers using contact information in Apple's files. These notices will be arriving on or before August 31, 2026. Even if you never sent your contact information to Apple, you'll still be able to submit a claim through the official settlement website once it launches. You'll need to provide Apple with the serial number of the iPhone model involved in the lawsuit.
Why Apple was sued
Let's take a trip back in time to refresh your memory about why this lawsuit was filed. The suit claimed that Apple misrepresented how far along certain AI and Siri features were before the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 16 series phones were released. Several buyers claim that they based their purchase on the misrepresentations Apple made, believing that their new iPhone would feature personal Siri.
During the WWDC 2024 keynote, Apple introduced a more personal version of the Siri digital assistant. Using AI, this version of Siri would be able to answer queries such as:
- "Play the podcast that my brother recommended to me."
- "When is Mom's flight landing? What time do I need to leave home to pick her up at the airport?" (Live data would be used to calculate the correct answer).
Apple even created ads for its new "More personal Siri." But in 2025 Apple announced that the new Siri was indefinitely delayed, a move that left some Apple employees embarrassed. Other delays followed until Siri AI was finally released this past June with the launch of the iOS 27 beta.
Siri gets a brain from the Wizard
Siri AI has been improving with every version of the iOS 27 Beta. Any iPhone user who had to deal with the old Siri responding to a query with three excerpts from the internet is going to love Siri AI. It is almost as though Siri visited the Wizard and got a brain.

The new version of Siri is now quite intelligent and knows about everything, even Apple devices, which ironically was a very bad category for Siri before the brain transplant. The only problem I have with Siri AI is that it has a tendency to cut off a vocal prompt before you have finished asking the question.
Siri AI has been improving with every beta release. By the time the stable version of iOS 27 is released next month, I firmly believe Apple will have Siri AI running impressively.
