AT&T just pulled an ace up its sleeve, and T-Mobile and Verizon should pay attention

The carrier builds on its customer support promise with meaningful perks.

AT&T subscribers who thought the carrier's customer guarantee was already pretty good have another reason to celebrate. The provider has just expanded its America’s Best Guarantee, promising even better focus on customer satisfaction.

AT&T builds on its customer guarantee

On October 15, AT&T announced new benefits under its America's Best Guarantee. Among the highlights is a commitment to simpler and faster communication with representatives.

If you call AT&T, you can expect to get connected to a representative within five minutes. In case this doesn't happen, you'll be able to schedule a callback at a time that works best for you.

Those who pair AT&T Internet Air or AT&T Fiber with wireless will have a dedicated technical specialist to assist them throughout the process.

If the carrier doesn't keep its promises, Guarantee makes things right with a benefit. However, AT&T doesn't explicitly mention exactly what benefits you can get.

Customer service done right?

These promises seem reassuring on paper, but only time will tell if AT&T has surpassed the competition. But how do the other big carriers handle customer support?

Over at the r/Verizon subreddit, for instance, I came across a few user complaints, with customers explaining they're met with an AI bot overdose when trying to reach a customer support rep. For some, the whole experience of talking to bots when you're looking for simple, basic help is too much, and I can understand why.

I've also checked the r/tmobile subreddit, but it doesn't feature a lot of customer support complaints from the past month or so. Don't get me wrong: the lack of complaints doesn't automatically mean the Un-carrier's customer support approach is flawless.

Customer time matters

AT&T's new benefits aren't just about staying competitive. According to the press release, AT&T conducted a survey to determine just how long customers are willing to wait to get in touch with a rep.

For many, 15 minutes is the longest they would wait, making the five-minute benchmark an ambitious target. But it seems to be a taget that shows AT&T recognizes the importance of its customers' time. Fingers crossed this whole thing doesn't end up being empty promises.

I'm impressed

Having spent a good deal of time trying to bypass AI bots to reach customer support, I've got to say these new customer guarantee perks impress me quite a bit.

What I'm most curious about now is whether the new customer guarantee perks could entice more users to switch to AT&T, especially those who aren't 100% satisfied with their current carrier.
