ZTE Axon 7 Android 7.0 Nougat update coming January 2017

The ZTE Axon 7 is one of the most appealing affordable unlocked smartphones you can get your hands on in the US. Come January, the handset will tick an extra box in its advantages section as the manufacturer has just confirmed that the ZTE Axon 7 will start getting its Android 7.0 Nougat update in the month.

The Android 7.0 Nougat update for the ZTE Axon 7 has been confirmed by the manufacturer's german branch on its official Twitter account. Although the local ZTE branch did not unveil any specific release date, it did say that Nougat will land at some point in January.

The ZTE Axon 7 currently runs Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. The handset allows the user to switch between ZTE's MiFavor 4.0 and an alternative launcher that comes with an app drawer. At this point, it's unknown if the manufacturer will try to extend its customizations or adopt a more minimalist approach with its Nougat implementation.

Now, while ZTE didn't provide the fastest turnout (Motorola has already started updating its devices to the latest version of Android), it's still faster than most Nougat launches.

ZTE Axon 7 includes hardware such as a 5.5-inch AMOLED display running at 1440 by 2560 pixels, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of integrated storage. Other specs include a 20MP primary camera, an 8MP secondary shooter, and a 3250mAh battery. That's a very potent setup and the new 7.0 Nougat update should only improve the overall experience.
