I've just published my Oppo Find X10 Pro Max review with a month's worth of personal experience, and the bottom line is crystal-clear. This one is a fantastic phone that's sadly commanding an exorbitantly high price tag that rivals most foldables out there and will price out many potential Android enthusiasts.

But for what it's worth, the Find X10 Pro Max is one awesome device, especially in terms of its camera prowess and capabilities. Packing three 200 MP camera sensors in the back (it's actually the first device to do that), Oppo's new flagship is a powerhouse that throws down the gauntlet to impressive camera monsters like the Oppo Find X9 Ultra and the Vivo X300 Ultra.

And just like those two and its predecessor, the Oppo Find X9 Pro, Oppo has also launched a dedicated Hasselblad Photography Kit for the new Find X10 Pro Max.

Hasselblad Photography Kit: What is it?

The teleconverter itself is a basic lens that adds an additional 3.28X optical zoom to the periscope camera, extending its reach to 10X optically (technically 9.84X as we multiply the base zoom by the teleconverter zoom factor). With the teleconverter attached, you can zoom up to 4600 mm, or 200X, which is a massive but completely impractical reach.

The teleconverter attaches via a snap-on bracket that slots right on top of the camera island of the Find X10 Pro Max. To achieve that, however, you need to put on the dedicated Hasselblad case, which sports a pleasant ribbed texture and a MagSafe/Pixelsnap-friendly magnetic ring that lets you attach accessories easily.

There's also a neck strap to attach to the phone case, which I can see be very handy if you're a keen traveler who takes many pictures on vacations (and who doesn't). There's also an adapter that holds the teleconverter lens itself and can screw to a standard tripod. Finally, there's also a high-quality vegan leather pouch where you can fit the teleconverter lens, its protective caps, and the case adapter.

And if you already have a Find X9 Pro with the Hasselblad Photography kit, no, you can't use that one with the new phone: the bracket is too loose and the lens attachment screw itself is wider so you can't reuse your old gear with the new device, nor vice versa.

What's the difference in quality?

Okay, now to the interesting part.

With the teleconverter lens attached, the Find X10 Pro Max periscope turns from awesome to exceptional, delivering outstanding quality at a pretty long range.

But a picture is a thousand words, so let's just compare the phone's 10X digital zoom versus the teleconverter at its native 10X setting.

As you can see, with the teleconverter on, the camera quality is superior. Not only are the details much more natural, but the background bokeh is significantly creamier and smoother. In contrast, capturing the same scene at 10X with the Find X10 Pro Max without the teleconverter delivers a much harsher image with noticeable oversharpening and unappealing background bokeh.

As the saying goes, there's no replacement for displacement.

Here are a few extra scenes with the teleconverter shot at 10X, 20X, and 40X zoom levels. Anything above that isn't very usable as digital zoom and AI-assisted upscaling comes into play. Moreover, it's advisable to use a tripod, as even the tiniest movement at such extreme zooms can mess things up.

As with most long zoom lenses, there's some chromatic aberration, and, as mentioned, anything above 20X involves heavy AI smoothing, oversharpening, and depixelation. The sweet spot with the teleconverter sits between 10X and 20X, where you can squeeze out the best results.

Should you buy the Hasselblad Photography kit for the Oppo Find X10 Pro Max?

The teleconverter kit is an outstanding accessory for anyone who plans to get a Find X10 Pro Max and take plenty of photos and videos.

Then again, you definitely don't need it to enjoy the phone.

You know how the best camera is the one you have on you? With the teleconverter on, the Find X10 Pro Max certainly becomes a more capable long-range camera, but in the process, it becomes wildly impractical and cumbersome to use. When the add-on becomes a liability, its value surely diminishes.

It's absolutely an intriguing accessory, but do you really need one? Probably not.
