The Samsung Gear A circular smartwatch will allegedly come in three versions
If rumors and leaks are any indication, Samsung has been working on its first smartwatch with a circular form factor for quite a while now. The last time we've heard of the device, expected to be called the Samsung Gear A but allegedly codenamed Project Orbis internally, the Wall Street Journal claimed that the Gear A will land with limited Samsung Pay capabilities, being the first device to make use of Samsung's mobile payments platform on a global scale.

According to new information published by Sammobile, the Gear A could actually come in three different versions, in a move that's apparenltly inspired by what Apple did with the Apple Watch. Allegedly, Samsung is working on three separate versions, called the SM-R720, SM-R730 and the SM-R732. At the moment, it's not clear how the three Gear A versions will differ, but it's reasonable to think that we might be looking at different build materials, different sizes and designs, or even different connectivity options. You probably know the drill by now, but just in case, make sure to take digest this info with a dose of skepticism.

Samsung itself has recently confirmed that its upcoming smartwatch will come with a rotative bezel/dial that users will be able to use to cycle through open apps and navigate through the menus. Furthermore, the manufacturer has published the Tizen SDK for the upcoming wearable since back in May, meaning that developers have been able to modify their apps to work on a circular display in anticipation of the handset's launch.

According to previous rumors, the Samsung Gear A will come with a Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 360 by 360 pixels (or at least one version will), an Exynos 3472 chipset paired with 768MB of RAM, 4GB of integrated storage space, Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.1, NFC, a heart rate sensor, a 250mAh battery. Furthermore, some versions of the handsets are expected to come with 2G cellular connectivity.

While some of the previous reports claimed that the Samsung Gear A will be officially unveiled on August 13 alongside the Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 edge+, other sources claim that the unveiling of the wearable might actually come in September at IFA 2015.
