This is Samsung's Tizen UI for its first round smartwatch (Orbis / Gear A)
Samsung has been working on a smartwatch with a circular display for quite a while now. Expected to be called Samsung Orbis, or maybe Samsung Gear A, the device could be officially unveiled in September, at the same time with the Galaxy Note 5.

Last month, Samsung all but confirmed the existence of a smartwatch with a circular display by teasing a new Gear SDK (Software Development Kit). Now, the SDK is available to download - thus, we can take a look at the Tizen-based round UI that Samsung is working on. What's more, the SDK also reveals some of the features that the Gear A / Orbis will almost certainly offer, including a rotating bezel that may have a similar functionality as Apple Watch's digital crown. For example, you can use the rotating bezel to zoom in and out of photos, navigate between screens, or adjust the volume.

Apparently, the Gear A / Orbis has a 1.65-inch display with 360 x 360 pixels, heart rate monitor, GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and cellular connectivity (only 2G, though).

All in all, the Samsung Gear A / Orbis, or whatever its final name will be, might become one of Samsung's most interesting devices of 2015. Take a look at what to expect from it:

Always gotta be one iDiot show up claiming Apple invented EVERYTHING..... 1st..... Eons and Eons before the Dawn of Time! lol.... btw... there is absolutely nothing else on a smartwatch phone (which this is truly a stand alone smartphone on your wrist vs Apple Watch w/o stand alone phone or GPS or watch face ring control) out to date. There will be clones and attempts to bring out these features, but Samsung has had this patented for several years. Back when they first put S- Health on Galaxy S3 with fitness features they had included in 2010 Bluetooth MP3 Player worn on your arm. Gear Wearables are the Brain Child of Pranav Mistry and his M.I.T. Sixth Sense Motion Sensing. Gear VR is all his and so is the reason Microsoft first came out with Kinect Motion Sensing. Both Samsung and Microsoft sponsored Pranav's work at M.I.T. along with Google! But..... it was Samsung who he began working for directly back then with Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology and Samsung TechWin. Now he heads Samsung's skunkworks "Think Tank Team"! Also..... the ring around the watch face control goes back to well before iPod scroll wheel you fool. Since they actually invented the first WatchPhone back in 1999. Two years before IBM invented the Digital Watch Crown Control.... Apple stole from them today!!! ....Samsung never used it, but they've owned it, re-asserted it with a follow up patent a few years ago! ;-P

Its really cool and the rotating crown on apple watch is really helpful when scrolling on that tiny touch screen. Kudos to samsung for finding a way without copying apple;s way.

This is probably 1000 times more sleek and sexy compared to Apple watch.

This could be the smartwatch I've been waiting for. If not then I'll be waiting for the Lg g watch r2 or what ever lg decides to call the R's successor.

Apps are useless on smartwatches. People are going to buy it for the looks. But of course, you already knew that and were just looking for something to criticize.

Ye apps are useless on a smartwatch, its useless to unlock your BMW i/Porsche(more will follow soon) with a tap on the phone, or get a notifications if it gets stolen, or turn on the headlights to find it in crowded parking. Or have shazam on ur watch and find the song you hear without touching your phone. You couldn't be any more wrong. Apps are the future of any smart device. Apps are and will be real reason Apple watch in a year from today will be a clear winner. And I say that cause yes its a clear winner now but still every android company is still experimenting and so I give them a year to realise without app support from google it wont work.

topkek... And yet, still no numbers from Apple about Apple Watch sales. None of those Apps matter to the average person, and an Applesexual pretending that these apps are important and lifechanging to hide his buyer's remorse isn't going to change that fact. Due to the size of watches, there isn't much you can do with the watch. In the end, looks will win, which is why the Apple Watch is selling like s**t. Don't even deny the Apple Watch looks like a failed abortion.

I know people with iPhones who have only installed 2 apps. Not everyone needs apps on a smartwatch. After all what more can you do on the watch that your phone can't? NOTHING. Everything you mentioned phones already do. I don't need 2 devices that do the exact same thing. If my car gets stolen, I can have a message sent to my phone. Stop trying to justify a useless gadget. Though I have a smartwatch, the Gear S; I bought it simply because when I go ride my bike or workout, I can leave my big phone at home. After all, on a bike all its features but 3 are useless. All I need is the time, the music and to keep track of my miles. Without those 3 things, I wouldn't even own the device. Oh and still getting my calls and texts since the wife is usually not with me when I ride is a plus too. People by a smartwatch because they want one, not because they need one. If I didn't have a phone already, I would just buy a Gear S and have a tablet instead, which is actually quite possibly might be my next move this holiday.

LOL! You can do that with something called car keys. Apple sheep are always coming up with inane reasons to buy s**t.

Yeah, without Android Wear it's not going to fly. I don't know why they waist their time on a nice device and then put irrelevant software on it. I mean, I love competition but this isn't even competition.

Oh? lol.... If you don't now own a Gear S or even original Gear, you don't know just how big Gear Store has gotten. You don't realize there are actually other online stores like GearFaces. Nor do you realize that (actually it's not just 2G.... it's 3G radio capable) Opera Browser runs excellent right on Gear S and coming Gear A (Orbis) Wearable. Hear Maps is said to be in the process of purchase by Samsung from Nokia with a reciprocal licensing agreement if not. Nike+ Running is exactly ZERO Support either! lol.... Not to mention the inclusion of Samsung Pay on Orbis with full PayPal, Bank Card, NFC, tap to pay features on over 93% of transactions, instead of less than 15% on NFC only! The way you pick Apps is by using the ring control for your top 20. Which already includes Yelp (restaurants), Here Maps, Nike+ Running, S-Health, Opera Browser and over 3000 apps and growing by the day. Can you run any Web Apps (Web Widgets) on iOS Apple Watch or Google Wear OS devices? If you included the 1000's of W3C HTML 5 Web Widget Apps and Games coming to the ONLY.... Tizen Open Standards Based OS in the FUTURE! Samsung w/ Tizen will be dancing on their freaking graves!!! lol..... With far better Energy Efficiency and much more powerful hardware! ;-P 305 DPI AMOLED Screen with Exynos Powerful Processor fabricated at 14nm.... instead of 28nm like every other iDumb and "Wear's the Beef" watch!!!

I hope the bezel won't be too thick like other round smartwatches out there. Anyway, the rotating bezel is a very neat feature

I'm just so happy to hear it will be using Tizen, I was really worried we would be stuck with a 1 day battery with Android Gear! I was going to buy this Casio watch ERA-201D-1AVEF but I think I'll wait to see what the Sammy looks like first!

Agreed. Tizen is super optimized. It's fast, fluid and stupidly battery-efficient. It's a night-and-day difference between Android, Apple Watch and Tizen when it comes to battery life. Tizen curbstomps both Android and Apple Watch in that department. If Samsung nails the UI, they're going to have a winner.

iphones have a mediocre battery and it was never a reason for them to fail. You wont wear your big smartwatch while you sleep. So what you do you leave it on the desk? Or its too hard to leave it charging while you sleep? The only way for a smartwatch to become mainstream and sell crazy is to be more than a typical notifications smartwatch that all android wear etc are today. It needs apps and lots of support. No one will be bothered to touch tizen and develop for it when Apple is selling ten times more than anyone else. Only way is the android wear and for google to wake up and make a specific app store just for it like apple did, separate from the phone/tablet app store since its so different of a device.

Have you even tried Tizen? I don't believe you. Tizen is just new to the market and there is no effing way Tizen can beat iOS and Android easily. You're just an ignorant troll.

I think he's talking about the 3 watch OS. I've tried both wear and tizen. At first I did not like tizen (on a wearable) until I tried it and after using a g watch for almost a year now, even after the recent wear update which was much needed and nice but it still lacks a lot - I prefer tizen because it's much more the experience that I liked overall.
