This is Samsung's Tizen UI for its first round smartwatch (Orbis / Gear A)
Samsung has been working on a smartwatch with a circular display for quite a while now. Expected to be called Samsung Orbis, or maybe Samsung Gear A, the device could be officially unveiled in September, at the same time with the Galaxy Note 5.

Last month, Samsung all but confirmed the existence of a smartwatch with a circular display by teasing a new Gear SDK (Software Development Kit). Now, the SDK is available to download - thus, we can take a look at the Tizen-based round UI that Samsung is working on. What's more, the SDK also reveals some of the features that the Gear A / Orbis will almost certainly offer, including a rotating bezel that may have a similar functionality as Apple Watch's digital crown. For example, you can use the rotating bezel to zoom in and out of photos, navigate between screens, or adjust the volume.

Apparently, the Gear A / Orbis has a 1.65-inch display with 360 x 360 pixels, heart rate monitor, GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and cellular connectivity (only 2G, though).

All in all, the Samsung Gear A / Orbis, or whatever its final name will be, might become one of Samsung's most interesting devices of 2015. Take a look at what to expect from it:

Since it will be Tizen, will it work with my GS6?

Tizen has a bad app ecosystem they should just use android wear since it's getting a lot better.

Possibly an upgrade from my Gear S, love Tizen on the Gear S, buttery smooth and excellent battery life. Rotating bezel seems really cool but 2G speeds will be awful, hopefully it comes with 3G at least.

What? Its a watch. Why do you need anything higher than 2G? How much data are you planning to download with a watch? You don't really need data on this device as it is useless. The Gear S only has a news feed, which it doesn't need 3G for. I mean get real at least.

f**k you man. 3G is very much welcomed to the Gear line. It makes the smartwatch more independent from the phone.

GTFOH dude, what difference does it make how much I download on my watch? When i do download or use data I wouldn't want it to use the slowest data connection possible.

I don't see this an an upgrade to the S rather than an alternate circlular choice. Wait to the gear S 2 comes out than say that.

Will there be an Android wear option for this smart watch. I think Samsung should give up in trying to get their homegrown OS on all new devices.

Hope it's better than that buggy pos "Galaxy apps" they have on my S6

Well its obvious you don't have an S6. None of the reviews mentioned such problems beyond the Android memory leak issue.

I don't think you understood my statement. I was talking about the app on the phone that says "Galaxy apps"....Perhaps because you don't have 1? It is a Samsung version of Google play basically with there own apps and ui. After signing up & having to give more personal info than I would for a Google account, I tried to install the flashlight app several times. Finally the phone turned off & restarted itself. When I did get the app installed it wasn't that good so I uninstalled but my point being, the ui for Galaxy apps looks awful & it's very buggy

You picked out ONE FREE App.... out of 1000's and 1000's available, some of which are the exact same Apps in Android Play Store. Only better optimized for Samsung's Touchwiz. Which is the only TRUE DESKTOP WINDOW MANAGER AVAILABLE ON ANY MOBILE DEVICE!!!! Having recently bee completely overhauled on the same Tizen Enlightenment SDK as what's running underneath Tizen on Smartwatches and is why it's FUTURE is a MILLION TIMES BRIGHTER THAN EITHER iOS or Generic Milk Toast Android!!! And I got that Free Flashlight App too. But.... apparently I'm not a Dumb...... like you!!! it works great and with a simple shake it turns on when I most need it! :D btw.... apparently you haven't set up a new Google or Apple or even Microsoft account lately and especially Quora or Facebook. Where you have to give REAL NAMES that must be verified. I helping a little old lady set up a Samsung account for Milk Music and Video and she rushed ahead and got it done before I got there to help her. If she can do it, when I had to help her sign up for Google account, you should have been able to do faster! Now take off 10 Demerits for being so stupid!!! ;-P And reality for you haters; (since I doubt you got an S6 anything) is that Tizen is already so much more energy efficient and ready for the Open Standards Future of the Web. It'll no doubt be tossing both Android and iOS to the side of the road, with base application layer being W3C Web Widgets. It also has Hardware Accelerated Virtualization built into the Open Source Linux Foundation OS Sponsored Kernel!!! hahaha.... Which means it easily can run Mirage OS Cloud Streamed Apps, iOS, Android, etc at near native speeds. Which with this Gear Orbis, means 1000's of more Apps than either competing OS will ever be able to run to go with running HTML 5 Web Apps Natively within it's browser! Get LOST.... er or I mean more lost than you already are!!! .....and Gear Orbis will also have an Exynos Chip fabricated on Samsung Industry leading 14nm Process, instead of 28nm like all the competition has today!!!

I'm just so happy to hear it will be using Tizen, I was really worried we would be stuck with a 1 day battery with Android Gear! I was going to buy this Casio watch ERA-201D-1AVEF but I think I'll wait to see what the Sammy looks like first!

Agreed. Tizen is super optimized. It's fast, fluid and stupidly battery-efficient. It's a night-and-day difference between Android, Apple Watch and Tizen when it comes to battery life. Tizen curbstomps both Android and Apple Watch in that department. If Samsung nails the UI, they're going to have a winner.

iphones have a mediocre battery and it was never a reason for them to fail. You wont wear your big smartwatch while you sleep. So what you do you leave it on the desk? Or its too hard to leave it charging while you sleep? The only way for a smartwatch to become mainstream and sell crazy is to be more than a typical notifications smartwatch that all android wear etc are today. It needs apps and lots of support. No one will be bothered to touch tizen and develop for it when Apple is selling ten times more than anyone else. Only way is the android wear and for google to wake up and make a specific app store just for it like apple did, separate from the phone/tablet app store since its so different of a device.

Have you even tried Tizen? I don't believe you. Tizen is just new to the market and there is no effing way Tizen can beat iOS and Android easily. You're just an ignorant troll.

I think he's talking about the 3 watch OS. I've tried both wear and tizen. At first I did not like tizen (on a wearable) until I tried it and after using a g watch for almost a year now, even after the recent wear update which was much needed and nice but it still lacks a lot - I prefer tizen because it's much more the experience that I liked overall.

I am not trolling, I am stating the obivous, NO APP developer will touch tizen since it sells so little. Apple watch have sold in a month more than all android watches did in a year. You wanna guess which one will have more support? Apple watch had 3000 apps on lunch date. I am only guessing tizen has 20-30 samsung apps and thats it, I can imagine quality of samsung apps. You do know that your smartphone is a piece of s**t for phone calls and browsing and nothing else without the wonderful google play or the iOS app store? Same applies to a SMARTwatch.

51. willard12 unregistered

Until Apple Watch release, Tizen was 60% of the smartwatch market. The requirement for app support for smartwatches is not the same as the requirement for phones considering that the smartwatch is tethered to that device with all those apps. However, if you are surfing the web and reading Kindle books on your watch, more power to you.

Here's B***N***D Truth for you on the REAL Sales SELL THROUGH AND ACTUAL DELIVERY of Apple Watches to End Consumers: First off a huge batch of Pre-orders (remember not a sale till they get charged and delivered) GOT CANCELED ALL TOGETHER and had to be RE- Pre-Ordered with deliveries stretching into August! Naturally in Apple's case.... they're claiming it's because they are in route (lies) on a slow boat from China. Just so they can claim them as sold. But.... really is far different. Apple was originally going to have the GRAND ARRIVAL of Apple Watch, being celebrated Grand Style.... with Store Sales. But..... a major supplier of Taptic Engines failed after already being installed in a huge number of Apple Watches. Search it.... you'll find it's true. But just like always they pumped up the RDF... FUD and Misinformation Propaganda Machine and claimed not only the Pre-orders yet delivered as sell through..... but CANCELED AND RE-PRE-ORDERED APPLE WATCHES.... as SELL THROUGH TOO! .....I guess so many addicted fools, iProles, Trolls and iShills don't mind waiting till August to get their iTricket Watches!!! ;-P To date.... not even a Million Apple Watches have actually made it into buyer's hands!!! ......otherwise you'd have friends you could brag about having one and I can honestly say, that with all the Apple Cult Members I know, none has their Apple Watch in hand yet!!! :D

I hope the bezel won't be too thick like other round smartwatches out there. Anyway, the rotating bezel is a very neat feature

Apps are useless on smartwatches. People are going to buy it for the looks. But of course, you already knew that and were just looking for something to criticize.

Ye apps are useless on a smartwatch, its useless to unlock your BMW i/Porsche(more will follow soon) with a tap on the phone, or get a notifications if it gets stolen, or turn on the headlights to find it in crowded parking. Or have shazam on ur watch and find the song you hear without touching your phone. You couldn't be any more wrong. Apps are the future of any smart device. Apps are and will be real reason Apple watch in a year from today will be a clear winner. And I say that cause yes its a clear winner now but still every android company is still experimenting and so I give them a year to realise without app support from google it wont work.

topkek... And yet, still no numbers from Apple about Apple Watch sales. None of those Apps matter to the average person, and an Applesexual pretending that these apps are important and lifechanging to hide his buyer's remorse isn't going to change that fact. Due to the size of watches, there isn't much you can do with the watch. In the end, looks will win, which is why the Apple Watch is selling like s**t. Don't even deny the Apple Watch looks like a failed abortion.
