Survey: 2.2% of iPhone owners are "extremely likely" to buy an Apple Watch over the next 12 months

Survey: 2.2% of iPhone owners are
A survey of 811 U.S. smartphone owners found that 2.2% of stateside iPhone owners  are "extremely likely" to purchase the Apple Watch over the next 12 months. 3.2% of iPhone users responding said that they were "likely" to purchase the iOS powered timepiece, while 61.4% said that they were "not at all likely" to purchase the device. Because the watch needs to be paired with an iPhone to work, less than 1% of non-iPhone owners said that they were "extremely likely" to purchase the Apple Watch, while 90% said that they were not likely to buy one.

The survey also discovered that over 60% of those responding would not want to pay more than $200 for the Apple Watch. Only 8.6% said that they would pay between $300 and $399 for the device. That is an interesting response because the most basic version of the timepiece will be priced at $350. Only 2.8% said that they would pay more than $500 for the smartwatch. Apple will offer premium versions of the Watch that could be priced at multiples of the basic price.

Judging from the response by those surveyed, the Apple Watch is a device that needs to be seen before buyers shell out any money for it. 75% said that they would need to see the Watch in person before buying it. 11.2% said that they would make the purchase, sight unseen. Over 50% said that they would check out the Apple Watch at an Apple Store, with less than 3% preferring to view the timepiece at a high-end watch retailer.

When listening to opinions about the Apple Watch, 40.4% of those surveyed said that the opinion of a friend might be able to persuade them to buy the device. 31.4% will listen to the opinions from family members, while 29% will depend on reviewers. The opinions of celebrities and athletes won't hold power over many potential Apple Watch buyers.

The survey was conducted over the last week by Quartz, using Survey Monkey. The Apple Watch is expected to be launched early this year, possibly as soon as next month.

This watch may be hugely popular. But they'll get thrown away soon, like other smartwatches.

Agree. I don't need smartwatches, either.

Smart watches are great if you get it for the right reason now I don't think the people that buy the apple watch will understand what they are buying and will be upset with it especially with the price being so high for no reason what do ever

I agree with this article 100%. Consumer interest in this product isn't all that high and the price will alienate most of the market from buying what is essentially a flashy smartphone accessory.

all apple has to do is push it with commercials and it will sell.

Apple watch will be a huge success..big one.. Apple always make sure their products with have revolutionary exclusive features.. In the future they will also put Apple Pay on watches, imagine how great will be paying with your watch.....

I understand that a CEO will lie about things being revolutionary in order to push their product, but you're not a CEO, you're a dork posing as a CEO. There was not a single thing revolutionary about the latest iPhone or the latest release of iOS. All the new features are ones that have been available on competing platforms for years now. Widgets, larger displays, NFC payments, third party keyboards, quick type that predicts the next word you are going to type, touchless controls, photo syncing to cloud storage, iCloud is almost identical to Google Drive and Dropbox, video demos in the app store... Everything you get excited about someone else has already done a long time ago.

I've bren saying this for a while - I think "Tim Cook" is a reverse troll. Everything he posts is obviously blunt to purposely sound like apple shill - when in real life no one sounds like that even if you're an apple fan like me.

Now what you said I can respect, You're an Apple fan and you have every right to like what you do. What he's doing is making ridiculous statements and isn't capable of backing them up. Can I be an ass about it? Yeah, sorry, I am... But I am not incapable of pointing out the flaws in the companies that I support and admit that I can be wrong from time to time.

This is what I say I am a real android fan I truly hate apple started back in mid to early 90's but I will always give credit to any company that does something good and I will always point out the flaws of them as well like Samsung HTC Sony and all the rest but I like all tech just want people to stop blindly loving the os they use and not trying others as well as cutting people down for liking something else I do get angry and voice out against some such as Tim cook above but it's stupid posts that's make me do that

Posing as a CEO? Nahhh, dudes just an Apple fan. He has the right to post within the PA rules whatever he wants, just like the countless android fanboys who post what you want to hear, so you don't bash them. You only attack pro Apple articles, just as you have the right to attack his posts, he has the right to post them. Countless android fanboys get all ecstatic over their fav OEM, but he can't? Who cares where the features were before Apple implemented them, we iOS users are just glad they're in iOS now. What I like about Tim Cook is, he never lets you guys get to him. He simply posts and doesn't respond to the criticism, I think he's great for the site.

Wasn't meant to make either of you guys feel that way, but think about it. When do you ever see TM attack? He simply likes Apple, and is excited about Apples lineup. He's not a bother at all like say, taco50, or Arte 8800 were. He's not a trouble maker on the site, just hyped about Apple, like android, wp8, BB10 users are about there favs. Gagakiller on the other hand, he's got it in for android. He's the iOS version of Arte 8800.

Being Revolutionary is a point of view, why can't you just respect other people's opinion? If you don't like it, don't buy it....., I don't care.. But why you have the need of calling other people dorks?

I'm sorry about the dork comment, but I at least identified myself as an ass so... lol.

Takes a man to admit he was wrong bro. It just astounds me, how people get hyped up about their fav, but when someone else does they jump all over them about it, just cuz it's not what they like. I remember not too long ago, a guy who's banned now, was on here talking about how much he hates seeing people in public with Apple devices. He went on and on, about how much he wanted to slap heir products out of there hand and step on them. I told him flat out, whatch who you do that to, cuz you just might get your ass kicked. How can it bother someone so much, that other hard working people are out and about enjoying what they like?

This site is full of enthusiasts and fanatics... I fear I'm straddling the line at times. I have voiced my shock before when some people get banned and I'm still here.

Some people are hardcore about tech, and some people are just idiot a**hole trouble makers that deserve to be banned. One thing we need to remember, is that PA is running a business, and like any reputable business...they want the trouble makers kept off the premises/site. Name drop time: Arte 8800/SirLancelot, lebigmac, neuro biologist, iOSLMAO, don't need to be on this site. Read some of what neurobiologist posts, he seems in addition to being very racist, having society aimed violent tendencies. It's as if he actually wants to hurt people, and rarely does he post about tech, vs posting about people. I'd sleep with one eye open around him.

You tell us, since you're the psychopath that has literally threatened people with violence on at least 3 different occassions within the last few months. Neanderthal.

You've shown me you're not worth responding to, so this'll be my last response to you. You're not worth potentially getting limited by PA. Too many cool techies here to waste keystrokes on you.

I like this comment but I feel the same way when I see people with iPhone because most get it because they are materialistic people think that it makes them higher class person, I don't want to help them and when I see a girl with iPhone it's almost like a girl smoker I just say no lol. I like doing and helping people stick on the side of the road or middle of the road like the lady yesterday but when they have a iPhone make me wish I didn't stop to help like when I fix a air conditioner for free and the person has a iPhone an like no don't worry about it and just leave hate being around them, funny thing is I have 15 iPhone at home I fix for friends

Cmon bro, that sounds petty to dislike people, or refuse to help someone cuz of the phone they use. Myself personally couldn't care less about what someone uses. My best friend/best man, and 3 groomsmen all use android devices, my closest sister uses one, I don't take it that serious bro. Too much going on in my life to worry about someone's phone. Happy New Years too bro.

Hey bro I agree with you, love and let live. We all work hard for our gadgets and deserve to be happy with them, and share our experiences with other techies. If people can't respect that, and wana be haters, then let em. I'm an Apple fan just like you, and just like all the android users...we have the right to be excited about what we buy too. Enjoy your purchases bro, 2015 will bring more text for all of us techies to enjoy. One thing we all share, is the passion for tech. In that we're all brothers. Happy tech year bros!!!

And let's not forget the classic "you're holding it wrong!" fiasco. LOL apple, can't even make a phone that makes, y'know, CALLS.

Problem with that thought you can't have apple pay on the watch because no way to ackknowledge that its you without a fingerprint Id unless they going to copy samsung have a fingerprint scanner on the watch
