Starbucks card for BlackBerry app to be disabled after August 28th
Back in October of last year, Starbucks decided not to allow any more downloads of its Starbucks card for BlackBerry app. Those who already had the app on their 'Berry can now use it through August 28th at which time it will become disabled. In an email sent out to its customers, the coffee giant says those using the app should go into a Starbucks location and have their balance converted to a plastic card before August 28th.

While it might be easy to blame Starbucks' decision on RIM's rapidly falling user base, the truth here is that Starbucks never upgraded the app for use past the BlackBerry Torch 9800. That means that owners of the top shelf BlackBerry Bold 9900/9930 never had a shot to use it. Now we will have to wait to see if Starbucks goes after 'Berry users again when BlackBerry 10 handsets rollout early next year.

The Starbucks card for BlackBerry app launched in early September 2010 and allowed users to check their balance online, find the closest Starbucks store, and at select stores the app could be used to pay for purchases. Meanwhile, the Starbucks card app for iOS and Android are both not affected by this news.
