Project Fi now includes support for kids thanks to Family Link

As part of the addition, adults on the network can now share their data with children, allowing them to monitor the specific usage at all times. In addition to this, customers can also set data limits for kids, as well as set up data usage warnings for all accounts, including their own. Furthermore, as added protection, adults can include content filters for services such as Google, YouTube, and more, and are even given the ability to remotely lock a smartphone once children have used up too much screen time according to the account limit that has been set.

In order to take advantage of the new feature, a Project Fi group plan is required, while a child account also needs to be added. Moreover, one of the compatible Project Fi smartphones is also a must. Currently, these include the first and second-generation Google Pixel lineups alongside the Google Nexus 5X, 6, and 6P. Also, Motorola’s Moto G6 and Moto X4 are supported in addition to the LG G7 ThinQ and the LG V35 ThinQ.

For those who don’t know, Google’s Project Fi is a mobile virtual network operator that relies on a combination of T-Mobile, Sprint, and US Cellular’s LTE networks, with this then being combined with various Wi-Fi hotspots across the US in order to provide constant coverage. Those using only small amounts of data are charged $10/month for each GB used plus an additional $20 for calls and text. However, after 6GB of usage, the plan becomes unlimited, with a set price of $80/month.
