Popular tipster predicts a massive price crash in 2027, will the iPhone 20 be cheaper?

The light at the end of the tunnel could very well be a high-speed train.

A bunch of iPhones.

We don't have flying cars, we don't even have smartphones that last a week on a single charge, but my biggest grievance with phones in 2026 and 2027 is the way their prices have skyrocketed.

No, seriously – I know that these handsets have replaced dozens of standalone gadgets, but the constant price hikes are what really grind my gears.

The Galaxy S26 came with a solid $100 on top earlier this year. The just-announced Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra starts at $2,100, which is also a $100 price increase over the Galaxy Z Fold 7. The upcoming iPhone 18 family will be plagued by price hikes, as none other than Tim Cook himself promised recently.

Currently, phone makers have a good excuse reason for the price hikes; the AI industry and the data center frenzy are devouring chips like a mad god from ancient Greek mythology.

But what if 2027 brought along a price crash?!

What are the odds

Popular and reliable tipster Yogesh Brar has some fascinating information to share with us:

So, according to him, the current chip shortage situation that we're finding ourselves in is "expected to last until Q1 2028", or another year and a half.

It all could change if Chinese chipmakers like CXMT and YMTC flood the market in 2027.

Once enough memory and storage chips are out there, phone makers like Samsung and Apple could stop adding yet another Benjamin to the Galaxy and iPhone price tag.

"If true, get ready for a massive price crash", says Yogesh Brar.

Let's hope it's true, but it's best to take all claims with a pinch of salt. If you're planning to upgrade your phone in 2027, it's probably better to save more money than you'd need, starting right now. If prices crash, you can always spend the extra $200 on gas or eggs. I hope $200 will be enough to fill your car tank next year.

Can the iPhone 20 be cheaper?

Not so fast. I've argued why it makes sense for the iPhone 18 family to land with a serious price hike. In short, this isn't the most important iPhone lineup for Apple itself – it's squashed in the middle between the incredibly popular and successful iPhone 17 family and the super important iPhone 20, the anniversary job. The iPhone 19 moniker could be skipped.

So if iPhone 18 sales are not outstanding because of the higher prices, this won't be a major problem for Apple.

What is crucial for Cupertino is that if it raises prices in 2026, it could choose not to do the same with the iPhone 20… and market this as a giant benefit for the end user.

If Chinese memory chips flood the market next year, Apple will have the best excuse not to push the envelope with the iPhone 20 price.

Of course, it's Apple we're dealing with

My arguments can easily go out of the window come 2027… because it's Apple we're dealing with here.

Cupertino could inflate the iPhone 20 price precisely because it's the anniversary job. I can already hear the "This is the best iPhone we've ever made!" sort of announcements and it makes my wallet shiver.
