Paranoid Android based on Android 5.0.2 Lollipop is now out for a surplus of devices

If you've been eager to test a custom ROM based on Android 5.0 Lollipop, but CyanogenMod 12 and all other custom distributions that derive from it do not quite float your boat, then a pure AOSP-based ROM might be your best bet. One of the more popular rivals of CyanogenMod, Paranoid Android based on the latest available version of AOSP (5.0.2), has just arrived for a number of devices.

In a blog post earlier today, the developer of the custom ROM announced the availability of the distribution for a number of devices, namely the OnePlus One, Oppo Find 5, Find 7, Find7 s, N1, Google Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 7 (2012), Nexus 7 (2013), Galaxy Nexus (both Verizon & Sprint versions), and the Nexus 10. There is no word if this list will be expanded with additional devices, though we are certainly looking forward to this. The builds for these device are still in their alpha stage of development, but are reportedly stable enough for daily use.

So, what does Paranoid Android try to win you with? The developer states that they've "added some goodies to improve AOSP’s state", while also throwing some "tiny and useful additions" to the Android Lollipop mix that will probably further sweeten the deal for the potential adopters. CyanogenMod's theme engine is also inside the bag of features. It's also said that the current set of improvements over AOSP are not that drastic just yet, as the team behind Paranoid Android will need to re-adjust its mindset and think of new ways to improve the AOSP Lollipop base. Thus, expect sweet surprises in the future if you swear by this exact ROM.

Here is a full changelog of the latest Paranoid Android version:

  • Update the baseline to AOSP Lollipop 5.0.2
