OnePlus 5 gets teased by CEO, an announcement seems imminent

OnePlus 5 is one of the most anticipated smartphones of the summer and rightfully so. The Chinese company always managed to surprise customers with its “flagship killers, ” and there's a high chance it will happen again this year.

The next top-tier smartphone coming from the Android OEM is the OnePlus 5, as we've reported many times in the past. The company is expected to skip the number 4 from the name of one of its products since it symbolizes “death” in the Chinese culture.

So, the OnePlus 5 has been recently teased by CEO Pete Lau, who posted an artsy picture of the device. Unfortunately, there's not much we can tell from this pictures, but since the number of teases and information leaked about the phone is on the rise, there's a high chance the OnePlus 5 will be announced in the coming weeks.

If we are to guess, OnePlus may announce its next flagship sometime in June, but the phone might not be available on the market until July. From what we've been able to gather until now, the OnePlus 5 is expected to pack a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, a dual-curved edge Quad HD display, and a 3,000 mAh battery.

Also, the OnePlus 5 may include either 6GB or 8GB RAM (a bit of an overkill?), paired with 256GB of internal memory. For the first time, a OnePlus smartphone might boast a dual-camera setup.

That's some great specs right there... Again S8 is going to get a good competition. It's about time people get to know about these way affordable flagship phones and ditch Samsung once and for all.

Well I had oneplus one, and the oneplus 2, and I have to say samsung is still better, because os and oneplus' support are bad as hell.

Dude, Oneplus and Samsung phones, both have the same OS; Android! I think you meant UI. For which I would like you to know that Oneplus uses a near-stock version of Android with a very light skin on top of it, called Oxygen OS (Hydrogen OS in China). It's Interface is nearly like that of Pixel's.

That would be the worst thing for the smartphone industry. Apple already gets away with enough BS, they don't need the $800 market to themselves when their phone is like the least expensive to produce.

If they stick with 5.5inch screen with 1080p resolution it's not not a flagship killer no more. I hope P. Arena is right about the Specs.

With 3000 mAh, I would rather have a 1080p display than a QHD one.

they should use 2k amoled by now, especially for daydream.. axon 7 already use 2k AMOLED last year, for similar price range..

But Axon 7 was weaker in other departments, atleast theoretically. Such as the amount of RAM, and the camera. Edit: This is a reply to no.16. Fix your comment system, PhoneArena!!!!

1080p screen is wise choice...if you want even higher resolution display on lg or Samsung.

From what I see in the picture that's been teased there are a couple things pique my interest: 1. 5 people working on it - clear indication it's gonna be the Oneplus 5? 2. One of the workers is painting the side bezel - signs that it's a flat display with minimal bezels rather than a dual edged curved one? 3. The guy wielding on the other side and the one tightening a screw on top - full metal body?

Excellent analysis. Thank you very much. This should have been the job of PhoneArena, but good to see it coming from a member. And a new one at that!

2018 flagship killer? Lol I have zero interest in almost stock android phones. Either pure stock like the pixel or skin the hell of it for variety. Yes, this is great for budget oriented consumers but if you are a tech geek like us, it's more about the X factor and Oneplus phones just don't have the mojo.

All tech geeks don't need your wth mojo. So stay put! Let Oneplus do its job.

The number 4 does not symbolizes death in western culture. In Chinese, however, the pronunciation is almost the same as the word death.

Yup, he screwed up. He should've written "some eastern cultures" instead.

I know 3000 mah js is enough but thus is a huge disappointment. If the oneplus 5's camera won't compete with other flagships like the s8i won't consider it

great features, but the battery shoul dbe at least 3,300 mAh. My OP3 is great at 3,000 but for best results, a larger battery woul dbe better. I don't even mind if they make it slightly thicker than the current offering.
