Motorola Moto X Play now available in Canada, prices start at about $300
Just as expected, this Friday, Motorola released the Moto X Play in Canada, which is one of the first countries in the world to get the new smartphone.

Right now, Canadian customers can buy the Moto X Play from five carriers. Videotron and SaskTel are the ones that are selling the new handset for the lowest prices off-contract: 399.95 Canadian dollars, and 399.99 Canadian dollars, respectively - meaning about $303 USD. You can also get the X Play from Koodo (410 CAD), Telus (420 CAD), or Bell (449.99 CAD). 2-year contracts are available, too, starting at 50 CAD for the Moto X Play, plus the usual monthly fees.

Alongside the Moto X Style (known as Moto X Pure Edition in the US) and the Moto G (2015), the Moto X Play is part of Motorola's brand new line-up of smartphones. Running near-stock Android 5.1 Lollipop, the X Play offers plenty of attractive features (for its price category), including a 5.5-inch 1080p display, LTE, an octa-core Snapdragon 615 processor, 2 GB of RAM, 32 GB of expandable storage space, 21 MP rear camera, and a 3630 mAh battery. The handset is splash-resistant, and can be customized via Moto Maker for free (though some custom elements may cost extra).

While Motorola said that the Moto X Play would not be released in the US, the smartphone could be launched Stateside after all, but under a different name: Droid Maxx 2. Like all previous Droid models, the Maxx 2 should be a Verizon exclusive.

The Moto G 2015 did incredibly well in battery test. Curious how the X Play will perform.

I just hope Motorola optimized the X Play''s battery well, I've read the review of Alcatel Idol 3 (5.5) on laptopmedia.com and the phone's temperature went above 40 degrees Celsius. scary af

What the review said was after heavy loads (probably opened so many apps and left them running in the background) it got hot like that..

Do you have to sign a contract? Is T-Mobile one of their 5 carriers?

No T-Mobile. I think it's Bell, Telus, Kodoo, Sakstel and one more. If you to Motorola.ca you will see all 5 options in the drop down.

I'd rather have the style but since it's so big, I doubt I would get either anyways.

Hi, Phonearena. Canada is not the first country to get the Moto X Play, the device has been in Brazil for one week now (released on Monday, the 17th), costing around 350 USD for the 16GB model and around 385 USD for the 32GB model. There are even some reviews of it already. Best regards.

Phonearena does not allow me to post links, sorry. But the site where the best review of it that I have seen so far is Tecmundo (look up on Google).

The Australian model is not out yet but it will be $569 AUD outright. And only available in black on black. Moto hates Australia :(

With such bands, it's virtually a global phone: GSM/GPRS/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz) UMTS/HSPA+ (850, 900, 1700 (AWS), 1900, 2100 MHz) 4G LTE (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 17, 28) Dear Motorola, please, do bring the X Play stateside to all, not just to freaking Verizon.

In Mexico it was also launched on friday, but prices start at aproximately $349 USD for the version with 16GB Storage, all the customizations, unlocked and delivery included. Extra $29 USD for the 32GB version.

$300 for u.s.a. would be a great price for the pure edition.
