Leak shows new fingerprint reader gesture for upcoming Nexus handsets
According to a report published yesterday, a new gesture will be available to owners of the new HTC Nexus models that will make it a snap to open the notification shade on the new phones. A leaked animated image shows that a swipe down on the fingerprint reader will allow those sporting the new Nexus models to see their notifications.

The leak also revealed that the navigation buttons will be refreshed with colors added to some of the symbols. Also of interest is the blue-colored phone used in the screenshot to demonstrate the new gesture. This is purportedly the 'Electric Blue' color that will be available on both new Nexus models.

Unless you've been playing Pokemon Go for the last month, and pissing off a grumpy man in New Jersey by constantly knocking on his door, you're probably familiar with the expected new Nexus handsets. Both are reportedly to be made by HTC with a plastic 5.2-inch model code named Sailfish, and a flagship quality 5.5-inch metal-clad unit code named Marlin. Both phones will have a rear-facing fingerprint scanner which should make it a snap to swipe down and check your notifications. A toggle switch allows you to disable this feature.

I have been playing Pokemon lately, but I thought this phone has a screen? So Htc/google is telling me it's easier to do it on a button/scanner rather than the screen..... OK.... Lol

Unless its a way to unlock the phone but it's not a swipe-to-unlock kind of scanner I suppose ? Also, don't we have notifications on our lock screen already?

Your index finger is already normally sitting behind the phone near the fingerprint reader, it is easier to just swipe with your index finger than readjust your hand and swipe down with your thumb on the screen.

yeah right.. its much much easier than flexing your thumb over 5.5 or 5.7 screen.. but did it require new hardware? cant they just give it to older nexuses?

That's another thing that I hate about the 6p. I always tend to touch the fingerprint scanner at the back of the phone. Even when I'm holding it normally, my finger is still there and can't avoid touching it. With this gesture thing at the back, its just the recipe of a big pot of mess.

If this bugs you stay away from her car colors and house paints, that'll really drive you nuts.

This feature is already available on the Huawei P9, P9 lite and P9 plus. I used it for a while and disabled it

It would have been better if the gesture is used to scroll down instead.like when reading an article.

"Unless you've been playing Pokemon Go for the last month, and pissing off a grumpy man in New Jersey by constantly knocking on his door, you're probably familiar with the expected new Nexus handsets. " Is your other article not getting enough traffic that you have to start spamming other articles with links to get more people over to it? I'm OK with doing this in other articles when the two are linked or in some way relevant, but these have nothing to do with each other.
