Prepaid wireless carrier Cricket just announced that it is adding a new Android smartphone to its lineup – the LG Optimus Regard. It is a fairly mid-range offering, but what is being touted about the device is that it offers 4G LTE connectivity. In fact, this is the carrier's first LTE smartphone you can buy and it is available in select regions for a price of $250 or $230 if ordered online.

Probably the biggest drawback of the LG Optimus Regard is that its screen is mediocre by today's standards. The smartphone has a 3.5-inch display with HVGA resolution (320 by 480 pixels). But the rest seems acceptable: a 1.2GHz dual-core processor powers the handset, a 5-megapixel camera is positioned on its back and a VGA front-facing snapper makes video chats possible. The battery can hold 1,700mAh worth of charge, and Android 4.0 ICS comes pre-installed.

And that's pretty much what the LG Optimus Regard is – a lower mid-range Android smartphone that can be had with no long-term commitment from Cricket. In case you are interested, the carrier's monthly plans start at $50 and include unlimited talk, text, and data.
