How to shoot underwater pics and video with the Sony Xperia Z3 or Z3 Compact

The new Sony Xperia Z3 and Z3 Compact sport the highest dust- and waterproof ratings on a smartphone this side of the CAT-branded Android monstrosities. You wouldn't tell from their slim and stylish physiques, but those premium chassis house IP65/68 durability ratings, meaning that you can submerge them in up to five feet (1.5 m) of fresh water for up to 30 minutes.

This depth is more than enough for some underwater photography fun in the hotel pool or the home aquarium, for instance, but don't think you will just lurk in the pool shadows, waiting for your frat buddies to make a cannonball, and shoot their inebriated faces underwater for the afterparty posts. You will quickly notice that you can't really operate a touchscreen underwater, as your finger taps will be reflected all over the place, usually taking you out of the camera app altogether.
