HTC could release the U12+ late next month: rumor
The HTC U12+ could hit markets across the globe in just over a month. It has previously been rumored that the Taiwan-based company would be introducing its 2018 flagship sometime next month. Despite the nearing date, though, the company has so far remained quiet in regards to its announcement. But now, a new rumor appears to back up these launch dates by hinting at when the device could go on sale.
Specifically, the HTC U12+ could reach certain markets towards the end of May or the beginning of June, suggesting a mid-May reveal is likely on the cards for the smartphone. This would continue on with the launch timeline seen last year, which included a May announcement for the HTC U11 and a Plus variant arriving six months later. Nevertheless, HTC is expected to skip the regular HTC U12 entirely this year, opting to release just the Plus device in 2018. This branding decision is said to justify the smartphone’s higher price tag, while also canceling out any critics that could say the device is inferior to the likes of Samsung’s Galaxy S9+ and Huawei’s P20 Pro because of the name it carries.
In regards to what the device will bring, rumors point towards a large, 6-inch OLED display, alongside Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 and 6GB of RAM. Furthermore, both 64GB and 128GB variants are expected to be available upon launch. Moving on to the camera department, a dual-camera setup is said to be present on the rear alongside a dual-tone LED flash and a circular fingerprint scanner. Also expected to be featured are stereo speakers and IP-certified water and dust resistance.
For now, HTC is yet to make any official announcements in regards to the device, but with a mid-May launch being the most likely scenario, it shouldn’t be too long before the company confirms the official date.
