HTC U11 (US version) will be updated to Android 8 Oreo starting Monday

Back in August, HTC promised that its U11 flagship phone would be updated to Android 8 Oreo before the end of the year. Staying true to its promise, earlier this month, the company started rolling out the Oreo update to HTC U11 handsets in Taiwan, and now it's ready to do the same thing for US devices, starting with the unlocked model.

Mo Versi, VP of Product Management at HTC, confirmed that unlocked U11 smartphones in the US would get Android Oreo beginning Monday, November 27. The update will be available as an over-the-air download - it's going to be a sizeable file (over 1 GB), so you may want to download it via Wi-Fi instead of using your cellular data.

As for Sprint's variant of the HTC U11, this will be updated to Oreo "as quickly as possible." Other two HTC smartphones that will get the latest version of Android in the near future are the HTC 10 and the U Ultra. Unfortunately, for now, HTC doesn't have exact release dates regarding Oreo for these handsets. But we'll let you know more as soon as we have official details on this.

Please can you give me your opinion on this phone? I want to buy u11 + so I think they are very similar. But I never bought an HTC phone so I'm a little scared. PS: Samsung user from long time ago.

The HTC U11 is a very very solid device, owed to HTC's software optimization, audio features, vibrant display and great camera. The phone outperforms the Galaxy S8.

HTC's talents and everything is now owned by Google, HTC is left with only the name and some cash, they now have to start begging other manufacturers like foxcon to make phones in HTC's name, I am now with Google, I am buying the pixel 2 xl.
