Essential Phone gets updated directly to Android P Beta 1
Google released the Android P Developer Preview beta 2 for all Pixel handsets earlier today, but there's one particular company that may have done a slightly better job. For some reason, Essential announced that its PH-1 smartphone is now moving from “developer preview” status to “beta,” which basically means that the new build released by the US company today is more stable than the previous one.

The Developer Preview builds that Google pushes out are closer to “alpha” quality than “beta,” even though they are tagged as beta. It's possible that Essential believes that the new Android P build has been improved to the point that it's worth being tagged as beta.

However, comparing Google's Android P Developer Preview beta 2 and Essential's Android P Beta 1 results in few differences between the two. According to Essential, the update contains the June security patch, the latest Google Android P code integration, improved adaptive brightness range, and increased stability.

Essential Phone owners who have already updated their smartphones to the previous Android P Developer Preview beta 1 should receive the Android P Beta 1 as an OTA (over the air). If you haven't done that yet, you can manually download and flash the new build from Essential's website.
