CyanogenMod Inc.: “we have a new hardware partner”
posted by Chris P. / Nov 21, 2013, 8:08 AM
Speculation that CyanogenMod, now a stand-alone company, is serious with its ambitions to enter the smartphone industry has been raging for a while now, and we've covered pretty much all there is to it.
Of course, as is to be expected, there was always a missing link – an actual, official confirmation that this is indeed the case, instead of telling, but ultimately unconfirmed signs. This nagging issue has now been taken care of by the folks behind CyanogenMod who have taken to Google+ to share the news of an upcoming hardware partnership:
So while we are still in the dark as to who might that partner be, we at least now know that the CM team means business. Of course, this doesn't exactly preclude us from jumping onto the speculation bandwagon, and noting that at this point it does seem very likely that Chinese Oppo will be the chosen one. Or the other way around. Either way, it would appear that the future holds some rather exciting events for all of us.
As always, stick around and rest assured that as soon as we know more, so will you.
we already have android, ios, windows phone, blackberry, firefox...so...no thanks.

Ray, Victor, Daniel, Nick and Chris are from Bulgaria. Most PhoneArena reviewers are from Bulgaria, I know Chris is from Bulgaria is because he has the Bulgarian accent. I love Bulgarian accents. Since you're Bulgarian, you should visit them at the PhoneArena office. lol If I'm not wrong, their office is at Varna.

the ROM you mentioned is a customization of the Android, hence still an Android. And it is not so far away from the stock version, just some/a lot of user access to the Android internals. Other point is: if you can run Android apps on CM, then CM is Android. If you can run iOS apps on (say) ZZ mobile operating system, then most probably that one is based on iOS (LOL) You may want to check also Ubuntu in respect with Android ;) you'll notice some interesting facts there too ;) Peace!

I think Oppo would be a good partner. They make good hardware and It'll make it more unique as oppose to another version of the usual HTC/Samsung/LG/Motorola etc... Not to mention have you seen the latest Oppo displays?? Pretty awesome!

Thought Oppo was already known to be the company to partner with CM, it runs their ROM right out of the box.

CM should work it out so that they accomplish what Nexus devices have failed to do - early updates to the latest version of Android that bypasses carrier/manufacturer delays. If CM can deliver that in their CM-experience phones, they would be the only Android device I ever buy.
