Best Sprint phones (2018)

Best Sprint phones (2018)
Sprint, the nation's fourth largest carrier, has some of the cheapest plans out there and one of the widest selections of phones, but which one is right for you?

We look at the best phones available on Sprint so far in 2018, and weigh their pros, cons and price to help you make the best choice for you. Of course, there is no one right phone for everyone and that's why we have different options, it's up to you to consider which one works best for your needs.

So let's waste no time and get started...

Apple iPhone X

Price: $22.22/mo with eligible trade-in, save $350 (regular full price: $1,000)

Best Sprint phones (2018)

Apple iPhone X pre-orders open on Friday, October 27th, and the new "bezel-less" iPhone with face recognition, a brand new gesture-based way to interface, the powerful A11 chip and refined cameras will have people line up to get one. If you have a flagship phone from this year or from late last year, chances are that you can save $350 on that astronomical, $1,000 starting price and get the iPhone X for just $22.22 with Sprint Flex.

Price: $33 | $38/mo, full price $792 | $912

The Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus are two of the best Android devices out there and they should be on the top of your list if you prefer an Android phone. The S9 series are not a major overhaul of the S8 series, but they bring a repositioned fingerprint scanner, now below the camera, in a more comfortable position, along with improvements to the camera experience and performance.

Apple iPhone 8 | 8 Plus

Price: $29/mo | $33/mo with Sprint Flex, $700 | $800 full retail

Best Sprint phones (2018)

If you don't want to spend a fortune on a phone, but still want a flagship experience, the Apple iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are your two best options. The biggest downside of these phones is that they look kinda dated with those big bezels and all-too-familiar design, but don't let appearance fool you: these come with some truly impressive cameras, a nice new glass back, wireless charging and the powerful A11 chip inside. Plus, they run iOS with the App Store (a clear advantage for gamers) and iMessage.

If you like these iPhones, you should also consider the now-cheaper:
  • iPhone 7 for $23/mo, $550 full retail
  • iPhone 7 Plus for $28/mo, $670 full retail
  • iPhone 6s for $18.75/mo, $450 full retail
  • iPhone 6s Plus for $23/mo, $550 full retail

Samsung Galaxy Note 8

Price: $40/mo with Sprint Flex, $960 full retail

Best Sprint phones (2018)

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is one of the best big phones available on Sprint. It rocks a beautiful 6.3" Quad HD Super AMOLED display with lively colors, it sports the S Pen that allows you to quickly jot down notes or sketch, and it features a dual-camera system with a secondary tele lens and portrait mode for blurred backgrounds.

If you want a cheaper Galaxy phone, you should also consider the Galaxy S8 and S8+ in the deals section below, but we do not recommend that Galaxy S7 that is still on sale for a price of $24.80/mo or $595 full retail, as that is way too much for that phone.

LG V30+

Price: $38/mo, $912 full retail

Best Sprint phones (2018)

While all carriers in the US get the LG V30, the Sprint gets the LG V30+, which is the same thing, but with double the storage (you get 128GB with the V30+). The V30+ is the best phone LG has ever made with a stylish glass back and polished aluminum frame. It's not just about the looks: the phone has some great cameras with a secondary super wide angle one, some impressive manual video controls for enthusiasts, great audio quality and it rocks the fast Snapdragon 835 chip. But there is one problem: some units ship with a screen has blotchy brightness. What this boils down to is that when you view a pure white screen, you do not get a consistently bright output across the entire panel. Instead, there are splotchy areas of dimness here and there. The issue does not affect all V30+ devices, but some (including our review unit) are affected, so do check it out carefully in person before buying.

If you like the V30+, you should also consider:
  • LG G6 for $20/mo, $480 full retail
  • LG G5 for $5/mo, $145 full retail

Price: $29/mo, $700 full retail

Best Sprint phones (2018)

Sprint offers the HTC U11. We do not recommend buying directly via the carrier because the price is higher than in other places, but if you order via HTC's official website, you can get the U11 for a much more reasonable price. The phone is great: it does have a traditional, wider 16:9 screen with bigger bezels, but it also has one of the best cameras ever put on a phone, fast performance and a solid battery life.

BlackBerry KeyOne

Price: $19.92/mo, $478 full retail

Best Sprint phones (2018)

The BlackBerry KeyOne is a phone with a QWERTY keyboard, and while it's clearly not for everybody, it has its appeal. Its big advantage is that each key can be set as a shortcut, so you get easy, quick access to many features, which is great for power users. The keyboard also doubles as a trackpad and is more convenient for some games, plus the phone has the Snapdragon 625 chip and lasts more than a day, and sometimes even two on a single charge.

Moto Z2 Force

Price: $16.50/mo

Best Sprint phones (2018)

The Moto Z2 Force is another alternative to the big names. It stands out with its plastic, shatter-proof display and support for the cool Moto Mods. For all else, it's a true flagship: Snapdragon 835 chip, good (but not great) camera, and solid battery life, as well as a clean and well-performing version of Android.

Best deals:

Galaxy S8 and S8+ (pre-owned)

Price for S8: $16.67/mo, total of $400
Price for S8+: $18.75/mo, total of $450

Best Sprint phones (2018)

Sprint has some great deals on some great phones: you can get the Galaxy S8 or the larger S8+ for a very low price currently. The phones are a steal: they have a stylish glass back, top-notch hardware, and the Samsung Experience interface that is a double-edged sword (but looks better than in the past). The S8 series also have one of the finest cameras put in a phone and support the neat wireless charging option.

Essential Phone

Price: $20.84/mo, own it after 24 payments or a total of $500

Best Sprint phones (2018)

The Essential Phone is one of the best bezel-less designs out there, made of premium stylish materials with a solid feel. It had quite a rocky start with many issues, but the company has worked to fix a lot of them via software updates, so the phone now works a lot better than just a month ago and even the camera - its weakest spot - has improved quite a bit. Sprint has a great deal on the Essential Phone, allowing you to save $350 on it, and it's a great value for the money.

iPhone SE

Price: $18.75/mo, own if after 24 payments or a total of $450

Best Sprint phones (2018)

Finally, if you want a dirt cheap option, Sprint has an amazing deal on the iPhone SE that brings its price way, way down. The iPhone SE is a tiny, 4-inch iPhone that runs on the latest software and has iPhone 6s-like hardware for the most part. It can record 4K videos and boasts great battery life.

When you buy any phone with Sprint, you get:
*Order online benefits: free activation/upgrade ($30 value)
**Sprint Flex is a leasing option. It allows you to return your phone and upgrade to a new one after 12 months, if you want to. After 18 months, you can choose to own the phone by paying one lump sum or paying 6 more monthly payments.
