Best Nokia phones coming in 2017

Reborn as HMD Global by former Finnish personnel, Nokia is set to release as many as six or seven Android handsets in 2017. Three of them (the Nokia 3, 5, 6) are already out in certain parts of the world and headed for a global release this or next month. Meanwhile, the Nokia 7, 8, and 9 could become fact in the second half of the year.

All Nokia smartphones will differ a lot in terms of technology and prices, but have one thing in common – they run pure Android Nougat, and Nokia has promised regular monthly security updates. Here's what we know about each upcoming model.

Nokia 3

This is the entry-level model which will cost about $150 and features a modest, but workable set of specs. It's also a looker with its metal frame and clean design that's reminiscent of cheaper Sony phones. While Alcatel has a $99 handset that competes quite formidably, this one has Nokia written on it. Never underestimate brand power!

Nokia 3 Specs
Operating system:Android 7.0 Nougat
CPU:MTK 6737, Quad-core 1.3Ghz
Display:5.0” IPS LCD (1280 x 720, 16:9)
Camera:8MP AF / 8MP AF (front)
Battery:2650 mAh
Storage:16GB (expandable)

Nokia 5

The Nokia 5 is more of a mid-range model with a slightly bigger display and a camera upgrade. It's powered by a Qualcomm chip, too. It's going to cost around $200, just $50 over the Nokia 3. It could be a better choice for the long run, although the 4 and 5-generation Moto G have it completely cornered at the $200-something price point in the US.

Nokia 5 Specs
Operating System:Android Nougat
CPU:Qualcomm Snapdragon 430
Display:5.2” IPS LCD 1280 x 720
Camera: 13MP PDAF / 8MP AF
Battery: 3000 mAh
Storage: 16GB (expandable)

Nokia 6

The Nokia 6 is the most powerful Nokia phone you will be able to buy until the 7, 8, or 9 are out. Although still powered by the humble Snapdragon 430, the Nokia 6 ups the ante with an aluminium body, 1080p display, dual speakers and a 16MP camera. It probably won't cost over $250. We believe Nokia could have pushed the spec sheet a bit farther, upgrading to the Snapdragon 625 processor. The Nokia 6 seems over spec'd for a Snapdragon 430 device, and could be made redundant by the Nokia 7 and 8's existence.

Nokia 6 Specs
Operating System:Android Nougat
CPU:Qualcomm Snapdragon 430
Display:5.5” IPS LCD 1080p
Camera:16MP PDAF / 8MP AF (front)
Battery:3000 mAh
Storage:up to 128GB (expandable)

Nokia 7 & 8

The Nokia 7 and 8 are upcoming upper mid-rangers, based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chip. They will have metal bodies. The 7 will get a 1080p-resolution screen, while the 8 will get a 1440p one. Carl Zeiss optics are a possibility for their cameras, and no dual camera setup is expected on these models. That's the little we know about these handsets.

Nokia 7 & 8 Specs
Operating System:Android Nougat
CPU:Qualcomm Snapdragon 660
Display:Unknown 1080p and 1440p displays

Nokia 9

The Nokia 9 will be the premium model, trading blows with the Galaxy S8, the LG G6, and whatever else comes along this year. Powered by the flagship Snapdragon 835 processor, it's expected to have a 22MP dual camera setup and a 12M front camera, along with OZO audio (360-degree spatial technology) and IP68 water-dust resistance. The Nokia 9 will pack a serious punch, but it will also have to look current. If it looks anything like the cheaper Nokias, it will seem out of place among all those thinned-out bezels!

Nokia 9 Specs
Operating System:Android Nougat
CPU:Qualcomm Snapdragon 835
RAM:up to 6GB
Display:5.5” 1440p
Camera:22 MP PDAF with Zeiss optics / 12MP (front)
Battery:3800 mAh
Storage:up to 128GB (expandable)

That 9 sounds nice. The camera better sell the phone though because the rest of the specs are mixed with the rest of the phones coming out

I'm not gonna buy the S8 now. Will wait for the Nokia 9 or HTC U. Both look very promising.

I just said my opinion, but I don't know why you got offended that way? Grow up fanboy.

Calling me a fanboy just proves that you will never buy an S8 because you are just another hater. If you just decided to skip S8 after reading about Nokia 9, why did you name HTC U. Trust me your opinion won't stop anyone from buying this amazing S8. What I'm sure about is you can't afford Nokia 9 even. You are waiting for the Nokia 6 to launch in your country.

With all do respect to the other readers, you are forcing me to change my tone with you. Your 8 days old profile talks about your trolling. My current phones are S7 Edge, BlackBerry DTEK 60, HTC 10, Lumia 950XL. I didn't attack Samsung or whatever entity. I was planning to upgrade for S8, but it doesn't give much over my current S7 Edge. Speaking about myself, I'm an Insurance company General Manager in Europe, and I can buy you and your family if I want. So get a life and stop trolling. I do apologize for the rest of readers.

No need to apologize. Sometimes you have to let the trolls know what the real deal is. And he's obviously a troll, and most likely a reverse troll here to make real Samsung fans look bad.

This guy is a fan boy that got hunted because we exposed his agenda to samsung. You want it or not, the S8 is a pure deception (exact for the screen, same camera, and same old audio DAC, same slow updates, same. lack of true innovation except a 2.1 screen). And the insane price! So it is completely natural for a normal dude to ditch this S8 and wait for a Nokia 9.

How old are you? 12? Let him see other options before buying? Why would he choose the S8? I also can't wait to see what the 9 is going to be, and by the time it release I bet you will also be commenting about your s8 and stuff. Nobody cares fanboy, not everyone likes your exploding Samsung crap

Don't pay attention to him. His screen is smudged by the greasy fingers that were popping his Acne minutes ago.

Can't you see he said Nokia 9 not 6. Btw Nokia 6 is also far better than Samsung mid range crap.

If only they didn't put the fingerprint sensor next to the camera. Most idiotic design ever. Coming from one who has had all galaxy s models since S2.

Here's to hoping the Note 8 introduces the under screen FPS, although I prefer Iris over FPS now

One thing about the 9 is how big will the actual phone be, will Nokia adopt the minimal bezel trend, or have the bloated bezels found on the iPhone Plus Models.

I will be picking up a Nokia 6 when it's available in the states, and the Nokia flagship after that. Can't wait for that Nokia flagship to be released.
