Apple starts selling Sonos wireless speakers in its online and retail stores

Wireless music accessories maker Sonos announced that Apple will start selling two of its leading speaker systems, the Play:1 and Play:5, in its physical and online stores. While Apple already sells wireless speakers by the likes of Logitech, B&O, and Beats, the ones by Sonos will be the first multi-room setups sold by the Cupertino giant. The Play:1 and Play:5 will be made available in Apple's U.S. online store today, September 27, while 468 retail stores over the world will start selling them from October 5. The Sonos speakers will be added to online stores for other countries in the coming weeks.

Moreover, Sonos and Apple will be organizing in-store demos in 140 Apple stores across the US alongside Apple Music. The demo will be controlled by a guided Sonos app installed in an iPad Pro. Also, customers who purchase either of the two systems will be rewarded with a free three-month gift card for Apple Music. The offer lasts until December 31.

The Sonos Play:1 and Play:5 will retail for $199 and $499, which is how much they usually cost in other locations. Apple is likely making this move in its pursuit of establishing wireless connectivity. It's already selling its own wireless AirPods earbuds, but it doesn't currently have a wireless speaker system of its own. By offering the Sonos products, Apple is able to showcase the advantages of wireless music listening.
