Remember the ad for Portrait mode on the Apple iPhone 7 Plus that takes place in a barbershop? First released nearly a year ago, the ad was named Best in Show at the 97th ADA Awards. The annual event honors work done in the creative arts, which includes advertising. The commercial is set in a small barbershop in a small town. After one of the barbers in the quiet shop finishes with a customer, another barber snaps his portrait using the Apple iPhone 7 Plus. The portrait hangs in the window where it catches the attention of a passer-by who stops to get his haircut. And his portrait is snapped with the iPhone 7 Plus after his hair cut is done. And now there are two portraits in the window.

One by one, people are drawn into the barbershop by the increasing gallery of customers. Is it the sartorial prowess of the barber, or does credit go to the blurred bokeh background of the portraits, achieved by using Portrait mode on the iPhone 7 Plus? Only their hair stylist knows for sure.

The ad won an ADC Black Cube for Best in Show, an ADC Gold Cube for Best in Motion and Film Craft, and a Gold Cube. Prior to "Barbers," Apple released an ad for the iPhone 7 Plus Portrait mode called "The City." In this ad, a busy street full of people suddenly disappear when a couple discovers each other, which leads to Portrait mode photos snapped on the iPhone 7 Plus. You can find that ad directly below, while the award winning "Barber" can be seen at the top of this story.
