Apple iPhone 7 Plus "Barbers" ad wins Best in Show award

Remember the ad for Portrait mode on the Apple iPhone 7 Plus that takes place in a barbershop? First released nearly a year ago, the ad was named Best in Show at the 97th ADA Awards. The annual event honors work done in the creative arts, which includes advertising. The commercial is set in a small barbershop in a small town. After one of the barbers in the quiet shop finishes with a customer, another barber snaps his portrait using the Apple iPhone 7 Plus. The portrait hangs in the window where it catches the attention of a passer-by who stops to get his haircut. And his portrait is snapped with the iPhone 7 Plus after his hair cut is done. And now there are two portraits in the window.

One by one, people are drawn into the barbershop by the increasing gallery of customers. Is it the sartorial prowess of the barber, or does credit go to the blurred bokeh background of the portraits, achieved by using Portrait mode on the iPhone 7 Plus? Only their hair stylist knows for sure.

The ad won an ADC Black Cube for Best in Show, an ADC Gold Cube for Best in Motion and Film Craft, and a Gold Cube. Prior to "Barbers," Apple released an ad for the iPhone 7 Plus Portrait mode called "The City." In this ad, a busy street full of people suddenly disappear when a couple discovers each other, which leads to Portrait mode photos snapped on the iPhone 7 Plus. You can find that ad directly below, while the award winning "Barber" can be seen at the top of this story.

Genious! That is why they’re number one, and because their products look and work as advertised.

Lmao... Portrait mode doesn't even work as good as the commercial implies. Let's not even start on ios11...

Yeah because you’ve extensively used portrait mode on your iPhone so you know from first hand experience.

I know from experience, it does not work as advertised. My iPhone 7 Plus red is the best iPhone hands down but I’ll be honest, the portrait mode is probably 3rd among all camera Phones. My Pixel 2 Xl was #1 till the camera went out. Now it’s just a piece of crap. I hate Google.

You mean your phone doesn't turn people into pictures?! The portrait mode on the 7 might not work as you want it to work or it might be topped in quality by other cameras but your phone sure does what Apple advertise it to do.

Exactly, i remember when i saw first iPhone ad and it worked so smooth and fast, i was very surprised i actually got that same experience from real device, it was first time when that happened and bought the device right away. Apple devices works like in their ads.

At present, no phone has portrait good as a Pixel 2 whether from the front facing or the rear one.
