Apple Watch is the top selling timepiece in the world
Quick. Name the top selling watch in the world. Rolex? Seiko? How about the Apple Watch? At today's event that was held at the Steve Jobs theater in Cupertino, Apple CEO Tim Cook told a rather raucous audience that the Apple Watch is now the top selling watch in the world. We don't mean that it is the top selling smartwatch in the world, which it is. But it is also outselling your traditional timepieces.
Released on April 25th, 2015, the Apple Watch was second to Rolex by the third quarter of 2016. That placed it ahead of some pretty big names in the watch business such as Fossil, Omega, Seiko, Patek Philippe, and Casio. Now, Apple has topped them all. The Apple Watch is also the most widely used heart monitor in the world, according to the company.
The new features introduced today should help the Apple Watch Series 3 continue its reign at the top of the industry, especially since the latest version of the timepiece does not need to be paired to a nearby iPhone in order to connect to the internet. Last year, 21.1 million smartwatches were sold globally, according to Strategy Analytics. Other tech giants in the business include Samsung, LG, and Huawei.
