Android users can now pre-register for upcoming apps headed to the Google Play Store
Phone buyers can pre-register when a new model comes out, assuring that those interested in the handset receive a notification when the device can be reserved with a pre-order. Now, Google is allowing developers to offer Android users interested in an upcoming app, the ability to pre-register for an upcoming release.

Glu Media will soon release its Terminator Genisys: Revolution third-party shooter game. Android users interested in purchasing the app have the opportunity to pre-register for it. Once the game is released, those who pre-registered will receive notification of its availability. And if you change your mind before the app is launched, you can unregister as well.

For developers, this gives them a way to measure how much demand there is a for a new app before its release. And by reminding forgetful Android users that an app they were interested in is now live, it might help bring some revenue into the developer's coffers that otherwise would have ended up in a cash register at McDonald's.

What's the point in it? being notified? for a game with in-app purchases? No thanks!

When I read the title I had no idea what you were talking about but that seems pretty cool.

If enough users use a certain brand and model register interest in my app and i will download the respective AVD of that model to test my app make sure it runs well before releasing it to Play store. So it good information for developer.

i guess it seems cool, I just hope the apps that not even installable shows up in searches though. There should be a special place or you must type in the full name for it. nothing wrong with having a option about being notified about something that you want to be notified about

Why on earth would I want to pre-register for an app? Seems pretty pointless.

Pointless until Apple releases it as a main point for iOS9, then it's the best and smartest thing ever right?

Yes until apple says they're doing it then it's just another usless android feature that Apple will get in 3 years time and will become 'revolutionary' and 'new'.

Seems like a good idea for the audience, too. It's annoying when you see an app advertised, but only out in the US market. A little thing saying "coming soon" to the UK people would be pretty sweet, instead of just seeing nothing when you know you should be seeing something.
