AT&T pushes out Windows 10 Mobile Anniversary Update for the Lumia 640 XL

The Lumia 640 XL is the last smartphone to receive the long-awaited Windows 10 Mobile Anniversary update at AT&T. The US-based carrier provided the update to all smartphones in its portfolio that were eligible, but not the Lumia 640 XL.

For some reason, Microsoft hasn't been able to deliver the update for the Lumia 640 XL along with the other smartphones. Today, AT&T announced that the wait is over for those who specifically purchased this cheap phone through its official channels.

According to AT&T, the update is available effective October 27, so many Lumia 640 XL owners must have already received it. It's also worth noting that the update is available via FOTA (firmware over the air), so a Wi-Fi connection is required.

In order to download and install Windows 10 Mobile Anniversary update on your phone, don't forget to install the Windows 10 Upgrade Advisor app.

Windows 10 Mobile Anniversary Update brings loads of new features and improvements. The Start and Action Center have been almost completely overhauled to make them work much smoother and be much easier to use.

You'll now have live tiles that update badges and content at the same time, as well as apps that should launch faster if there are incoming live tiles. Also, notifications in both banners and Action Center now follow the “Text Scaling” setting.

Many Cortana improvements have been implemented too. The Setting menu now contains new panels, settings and options, but many changes have been made to the system as well. For a more in-depth look on this update, you can check out the full Windows 10 Mobile Anniversary Update changelog.
