You can now live stream directly from the Twitter app

Ever since Twitter acquired the startup Periscope last year, it's been pushing hard on the live stream market. The company integrated Periscope live streams with Twitter recently, letting you live stream through the video app directly into Twitter.

And while you could watch streams in Twitter, you couldn't start them without the Periscope app. This is no longer the case, as you can now start live streams directly from your Twitter app, while composing a tweet.

The feature is still powered by Periscope, but it won't rely on a separate app. Instead, hitting the “Live” button will take you to a pre-broadcast screen, where you can frame your shot. Then you can press the “Go Live” button to start your live stream instantly.

During the broadcast, both Twitter and Periscope users will be able to join as viewers. Users will be able to comment the live stream and send hearts by tapping the screen to “show [their] support for the broadcaster”.

This is obviously an attempt on Twitter's side to catch up with the live video trends across other social media platforms. Considering that its rivals have been working on this for a while, though, Twitter might be a bit late to the race.
