BlackBerry Leap can be pre-ordered in U.S., U.K. and Germany, but not Canada

Last month, BlackBerry outed the BlackBerry Leap, an all-touch handset that is powered by the latest and greatest build of BlackBerry, 10.3.1. Just a few days ago we showed you an official video from BlackBerry that starred the Leap. As March came to an end, BlackBerry started accepting pre-orders for the device in the U.S., U.K. and Germany. For some reason, in its home country BlackBerry is not accepting pre-orders for the model.

In the U.S., the BlackBerry Leap is priced at $275. While the phone cannot be reserved in Canada, the manufacturer has put up a price of $349 (Canadian) on the ShopBlackBerry site. The difference in pricing has to do with the current foreign exchange rate.

So why can't the BlackBerry Leap be ordered in Canada? One theory is that Canadians will get the phone first and will skip the pre-order process. Another theory has the Canadian release of the device taking place shortly after its launch in other countries. Regardless of the reason why Canada was skipped over, BlackBerry does show the device as being in stock on its Canadian website even if elsewhere on the same site the device is listed as "coming soon."

To recap the specs on the BlackBerry Leap, the device comes with a 5-inch screen with resolution of 720 x 1280. Under the hood is a dual-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon 8960 CPU with the Adreno 225 GPU handling graphics. 2GB of RAM is inside along with 16GB of native storage. A 128GB capacity microSD is available for those requiring additional memory. Back and front-facing cameras weigh in at 8MP and 2MP respectively. The 2800mAh battery is larger than you would expect for a phone like the Leap, which should mean that you can look forward to all day battery life with this model.

As soon as BlackBerry announces its plans in Canada, we will pass it along to you. In the meantime, those in the U.S., U.K. and Germany can pre-order the phone from the ShopBlackBerry site in their country.
