UK carrier Virgin Media O2 invests millions in upgrading its network across Yorkshire
Well, we have good news for everyone living in Yorkshire. As Virgin Media O2 announced in a new blog post, now 50% of Yorkshire's population has access to the carrier's 5G network. This means that people across 100 locations, including Leeds, York, Sheffield, and Wakefield, now have access to a faster internet connection, which enables them to better stream movies and TV shows, download apps or transfer larger files with confidence.

Furthermore, from November 2021 to October 2022, Virgin Media O2 upgraded its 4G network in over 61,000 postcodes across Yorkshire. This includes 13,700 postcodes in North Yorkshire, 15,200 in South Yorkshire, 25,700 in West Yorkshire, and 6,400 in the East Riding of Yorkshire.

The carrier also stated that it has spent over £188 million across the region in recent years as part of its commitment to invest over £10 billion to upgrade the UK’s network infrastructure. For example, through its Project Lightning program, 324,000 homes and businesses in Yorkshire now have access to "ultrafast broadband."

The company also stated that as a result of its investment, 900 jobs were created or secured, as well as contracts with local firms that helped build the region's infrastructure.

It's really good news that more people in the UK now have access to 5G, but no matter how much UK carriers invest in increasing their 5G networks, if you don't have a 5G-capable phone, you just can't take advantage of the upgrade.
