A bigger Galaxy S27 Ultra battery beat the M16 display by a mile

In our story on the Galaxy S27 Ultra's Chinese certification, we asked you which rumor you want to be true the most. The battery capacity increase took 62.08% of the vote, the M16 display came in at 23.21%, and the new placement of the rear cameras trailed behind with 14.72%.



The battery rumor comes from a listing with China's 3C (China Compulsory Certification), the mandatory safety mark electronics need before they can be sold there, and it points to a 5,700mAh battery. X leaker Anthony (@TheGalox_), whose images have popped up in several of our S27 stories, repeated that figure and added that both the S27 Ultra and the S27 Pro will use the M16 display.

How a 5,700mAh battery stacks up against the iPhone 18 Pro Max

Samsung has used 5,000mAh on every Ultra since the Galaxy S20 Ultra in 2020, so 5,700mAh would be a 14% jump in a single year.



It should be noted that phone batteries come with two numbers. The rated capacity is the minimum every cell is guaranteed to hold, while the typical capacity is the average across a manufacturing batch, which is the figure Samsung puts on the box.

As we've tracked the leaks, the S27 Ultra's rated capacity was reported at 5,534mAh, which works out to roughly 5,700mAh typical, and the 3C figure appears to line up with that. If it holds, 5,700mAh is likely the same kind of number Samsung has always advertised, so the 14% jump is a fair comparison with the S26 Ultra.

Still, capacity is only half of the story, and the iPhone 18 Pro Max is a good example. The US eSIM model carries a 5,567mAh battery, so a 5,700mAh S27 Ultra would be just over 2% bigger, and in our own battery testing the iPhone 18 Pro Max lasted 12 hours and 49 minutes, which put it in a league of its own. So if you own an iPhone 18 Pro Max, the S27 Ultra's battery isn't something to worry about unless Samsung pairs it with much better efficiency.

What the Galaxy S27 Ultra battery means for current Ultra owners

Most of you clearly care more about getting through the day than about a brighter panel or a redesigned camera bar. That's good news for anyone holding onto a Galaxy S25 Ultra or S26 Ultra, since the upgrade you want most is also the rumor with the strongest evidence behind it.

The Galaxy S27 Ultra battery upgrade is overdue, but is it enough?

I'm glad Samsung appears to be finally moving past 5,000mAh, and the nearly three-to-one margin shows how long you've been waiting for it. However, with the iPhone 18 Pro Max already this close in capacity and budget Galaxy phones going bigger, 5,700mAh feels like Samsung catching up to the rest of the market, and I'm not sure it's enough to pull ahead.

I'd personally love to see the S27 Ultra finally sit near the top of our battery charts instead of somewhere in the middle, and I'm hoping this is the year it happens.
