Google is replacing every single Gemini voice with something new

All of Gemini's voice options might soon be legacy tech, as Google is likely prepping up to reveal new ones.

It appears that Google might soon be changing the available voices in its Gemini assistant. This upcoming change won't affect just one or two voices, no––Google is reportedly cleaning house and will substitute all the current voices with new ones.

New assistant, who this?

This change was discovered by an Android Authority APK teardown of the latest Google app (version 17.18.22.sa.arm64). That particular version contains two strings, which point out that the legacy voices are going away:

< string name="assistant_robin_mc_voice_selection_legacy_dialog_title">Legacy voices are going away < /string>
< string name="assistant_robin_mc_voice_selection_legacy_dialog_body">"Gemini's previous voice options are going away, so you won't see them here anymore" < /string>

These are pretty unambiguous.

If Google decides to go on with changing the voices with brand new ones, this is what you'll see, most certainly in Gemini's settings menu where you usually choose your favorite voice.

Gemini currently has ten different English voices, including male/female versions that range in pitch, accent, and energy. We don't know what new voices would substitute the existing ones, but knowing Google, we'll likely get a selection that's just as diverse.

No specific window when that could happen

Of course, with all things discovered during app teardowns, there's no specific timeframe when this change could take place. Or even if it will take place at all.

It might be tomorrow, next week, next month, or whenever Google feels like it. But there's one thing certain––there's no smoke without fire.

This change seems like it would be a great talking point at Google I/O 2026, which will take place in less than three weeks. You and we all know that the majority of the developer summit will revolve around the company's AI advances and Gemini improvements, so a whole new voiceboard fits nicely.

Gemini is my favorite chat assistant

After relying on ChatGPT in the early days of AI chatbots, I tried a couple of rivals but ultimately settled on Gemini as my go-to assistant. It's very balanced, has very decent usage limits, and is already preloaded on any Android phone I grab, making it a perfect fit.

I don't normally use Gemini Live or input my requests with voice, so I've never had any major issue with the existing voices of the AI chatbot. Still, I'm curious to see if Google will introduce voices that sound more human or will lean into something entirely new.
