While SpaceX takes its time, one small carrier exerts pressure on the Big Three
C Spire shows once again that its customer experience rivals that of the Big Three.

Convergence is the new battleground, and the major carriers aren't the only ones aware that the stakes are high. Mississippi-based C Spire started bundling wireless and fiber in May. The company is now tossing in 5G home internet to serve customers outside of its fiber footprint.
Maybe not. After all, the Big Three have an approximate combined customer base of 409 million, while C Spire has just 1 million. That's no reason to back down, and C Spire has no intention to do so.
The company has expanded The One Plan to 500,000 more Mississippi households by adding 5G Home Internet to the mix. Like the fiber bundle, this plan starts at $99 per month. That's slightly higher than the rates AT&T ($90/month), T-Mobile ($80/month), and Verizon ($70/month) charge, but C Spire still claims that its offer is unmatched. The claim isn't entirely without merit.
As Omdia's Principal Analyst Kristin Paulin notes, T-Mobile doesn't offer a hard bundle, meaning customers will still be juggling separate bills. AT&T OneConnect and Verizon One are only available to new customers.
C Spire's existing customers are eligible for its converged plan, which includes a five-year price guarantee similar to T-Mobile's. There are no long-term contracts, so you can terminate service at any time. C Spire will give you the Inseego 5G Wavemaker FX3110 router, which supports up to 64 devices. You can also count on the company to get you connected right away.
According to Recon Analytics founder Roger Entner, having fiber assets is what gives cellular companies the real advantage. C Spire began offering fiber internet in 2013 and currently passes 497,000 locations. The wireless and fiber combo can help a company grow rapidly, but not everyone needs fiber speeds. C Spire is offering unlimited, unthrottled data, which should make for a pleasant experience. The company made major upgrades to its network to boost capacity and serve more customers.
It's one thing for a giant like SpaceX to challenge incumbent carriers. It's far more impressive when a company the size of C Spire refuses to fold amid a cut-throat competitive environment. If only Boost were that brave.
Enough to send AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon into a spiral?
Maybe not. After all, the Big Three have an approximate combined customer base of 409 million, while C Spire has just 1 million. That's no reason to back down, and C Spire has no intention to do so.
The One Plan with 5G Home Internet is an offer no other carrier can match. You don't sign a long-term agreement, and you don't wait for an appointment. You can be up and running right away, with one bill, one support number, and a five-year price guarantee.
