Xiaomi introduced the international version of its Android UI today
, and one of the features on MIUI 7 helps Xiaomi users save data. Developed with Opera Software, the Data Saver is powered by the Opera Max data compression
that will work on user's apps. It also will work with video streamed by Netflix and YouTube
Since the MIUI Data Saver is basically the Opera Max Data Management app available in the Google Play Store, MIUI 7 users who enable the Data Saver feature will be able to turn a 10MB video into 3MB of data use. You will be able to see for yourself how much data you are saving each time you run an app or watch a YouTube/Netflix video. And if an app is running in the background consuming some of your precious data, it can be turned off quickly.
MIUI Data Saver is a very useful tool that can help Xiaomi users save data and dollars. And by cutting back on those apps receiving data in the background, users can also extend their battery life.
"Our vision is bringing innovation to everyone. The Data Saver feature on our phones, powered by Opera, is a perfect example of how we apply this philosophy to our software and services. This new feature will give all of our users much more out of their data plans, and I believe Mi fans all over the world will love how this feature keeps their Internet costs under control."-Hugo Barra, VP, Xiaomi Global
"We are very excited to extend our close relationship with Xiaomi to offer Xiaomi customers data savings, so they can spend more time online. By building partnerships with large mobile device manufacturers, we can continue to lower barriers to internet access, worldwide."-Nitin Bhandari, SVP Products, Opera Software
