Xiaomi MiPad coming to Malaysia according to teaser
Xiaomi's Malaysian Facebook page contains a teaser indicating that the Xiaomi MiPad is heading to the country. A pixelated image of the tablet with Akan Datang (which means "next" in English) above it certainly seems like a good indication that the slate is on the way. In addition, the MiPad recently received certification from SIRIM which is Malaysia's version of the FCC.
The Xiaomi MiPad features a 7.9-inch screen with a resolution of 2048×1536. If that combination sounds familiar, it's because the Apple iPad mini 3 features a display with the same exact size and resolution. The pixel density comes in at 324ppi and the tablet is powered by a quad-core 2.2GHz Nvidia Tegra K1 chipset. 2GB of RAM is on board and there is 16GB of native storage. For those requiring additional memory, a 128GB capacity microSD slot is available. The back camera weighs in at 8MP with an aperture of f/2.0. A 5MP "selfie" camera adorns the front of the slab and a 6700mAh battery keeps the lights on. The tablet does not offer cellular connectivity, which means that users need to rely on a Wi-Fi signal.
A specific date for the Xiaomi MiPad's Malaysian launch has not been announced yet.

The Xiaomi MiPad is priced at the equivalent of $208, making it a pretty good value. The manufacturer did have to cut some corners to hit that price point. Besides the lack of cellular connectivity, the cameras do not have a flash, although to be fair, the aperture on the rear snapper should allow for some decent pictures in low light conditions. Additionally, the tablet is offered without GPS.
