Windows Mobile to sell 22 million copies, 6.5 gets a widget engine
Hey, Microsoft is making moves, you know. According to Microsoft’s Kevin Turner, his company expects to sell about 22 million copies of Windows Mobile this year. However, it hasn’t been cleared whether he was referring to the fiscal 2009, or the calendar one. In case he was speaking of the former, this means that Microsoft expects a 22% increase over the 2008 result of 18 million. Still, last year, the company expected a total of 20 million units sold, but after some hardware partners have delayed their products, it managed to score 2 million less.

So much for the boring fiscal calculations; WMPoweruser reports that Windows Mobile 6.5 will have a widget engine, which will run HTML and JavaScript-based applications using the IE 8 Mobile engine. The idea here is that this type of widgets will deliver a quick and easy method of developing applications that support certain web services. Like it or not, that’s where widgets are strong and the companies know it. It is expected that Windows Mobile 6.5 will include Live Search, MSN Money stock trading and MSN Weather widgets.
