Watch the Galaxy S5 battery explode like a firecracker during a routine hammer&knife test
Samsung's Galaxy S5 is still young and fresh and water-resistant. It has been buried in a poolput in the sink under pouring water, and dropped from reasonable heights. If you have been worried that there are no hammer or scratch tests on Samsung's seasonal finest, you can sleep tight now.

The phone gets fairly gently smashed and scratched in the video below, like every routine smartphone hammer&knife test goes, and takes a decent overall beating, before it begins to crack. The utmost surprise, however, comes at the end, when the battery fights back, and dashes away like a firecracker. Yep, the impact of the hammer slap makes the juicer's innards go crazy, and it starts to spin, speeding off the table better than a swirling firework at the Chinese New Year.

The thousands of milliampere hours in today's smartphone batteries are packed so tightly together, that the tension makes them prone to some combustible and explosive chemical reactions, so, don't do this at home, and don't leave the S5 on the dashboard when in Arizona, too.

oh come on. seriously? if somebody had a phone that cracked that bad wouldn't they stop using it once the screen stopped working ALTOGETHER? he said he was going to finish till the phone died. obviously once the screen shuts off beyond damage then that means it's dead done finished fatality. no he wanted to be greedy and give it a brutality. dumbass

All I can say is,wowwwwwww. Durable glass, so so build quality, and that battery thing might actually be an issue. One hard drop on it's back, could cause a small explosion.

pretty sure, a hard drop will NEVER become anywhere near as hard as that hammer, when you drop a phone its only its own weight that adds to the impact plus how hard the surface is it lands on. heavy hammer swung with force....yeah....pretty sure that's a ton more force then any drop can give.

the disadvantage of a removable plastic back! lol!

Well, with the way he was smashing at it, I would think that given how thin the metal is on most metal phones it wouldn't make that much of a difference, dunno, maybe he can make a video where he does the same to the back of a metal phone? Though that said, pressure increase situation inside a sealed metal box vs none/lightly/plastic sealed box. Both are dangerous, but only one is a potential bomb with metal shrapnel, not that any phone should ever be treated like this.

Is it bad that I LMAO at the end when he started coughing after the battery exploded?

yes... Lets hit the phone repeatedly with a heavy hammer and see what happens, I wonder what happens when you hit a thin battery with a heavy hammer. It breaks..... why would anyone think tests like this show anything useful, no phone is ever going to get into situations like this at all, so of course they are going to break. Frankly I'd be more concerned if this happened with a metal phone (not saying metal is bad) but with the battery being sealed within a metal case, battery expands or try to, gasses can't be expelled correctly....that's a bomb in the making.

Whoever made that video is completely idiot. Of course, no smartphones will survive on a hammer (heavy force smash) and that's what he gets for doing that (battery explosion) I wonder if he's in the hospital right now or not. Common sense whoever made the video.
