Verizon's Moto Z Droid and Moto Z Force Droid are updated to Android 7.1.1

Motorola's 2016 flagship model in the states, the Moto Z Force Droid, has finally been updated to Android 7.1.1 along with the Moto Z Droid. The third phone in the series, the Moto Z Play Droid, had already received the update in June. New icons now appear in the dock, and many of the icons on the screen are now placed inside a circle instead of a square. Long pressing icons like Google Maps or Twitter will launch certain shortcut actions that can be taken from the home screen.

Besides Android 7.1.1, the update also delivers the July Android security patch to the two phones. While Motorola hasn't said anything official, we would expect both models to be on the list to receive the Android 8.0 (Oreo) update.

If you own the Moto Z Droid or Moto Z Force Droid and you receive the notification telling you that an update has arrived, before you continue the process make sure that you are connected to a Wi-Fi network or to a strong Verizon cellular signal. At the same time, charge your battery to 100% before you begin updating your phone. Because it is being sent out OTA, the update is disseminated in waves. If it doesn't come to your device today, perhaps it will come tomorrow or the day after. You can try to manually coax out the update by going to Settings > System updates > Check for system update.
