Verizon Wireless to ship the VCAST-enabled Samsung SCH-A890

Verizon Wireless and Samsung Telecommunications America announced that the first wireless handset from Samsung for Verizon Wireless' VCAST service – SCH-A890 – will be available on February 1st. The innovative SCH-A890 will allow consumers to access a variety of VCAST applications, including Video on Demand (VOD) capabilities which provide access to a wide range of more than 300 daily updated videos from leading content providers as well as unlimited browsing of Verizon Wireless' Mobile Web 2.0 news and information service at the cost of $15 monthly in addition to their regular calling plan. The new device will be available to Verizon Wireless customers for $249.99 after $70 rebate with a two-year contract. The main features of the clamshell-designed SCH-A890 are:

 

  • CDMA2000 1xEV-DO data with speed of 500 Kbps (based on network usage)

  • 260k color display

  • Video on Demand (VOD) capabilities

  • built-in 1.3 mega pixel camera with flash, streaming video, zoom and self-timer

  • QuickPhrase speech-to-text dictation technology

  • advanced voice recognition software

  • multimedia messaging options
