Update brings Live Photos and 3D Touch support to Tumblr's iOS app

Apple's Live Photos feature captures on video the first 1.5 seconds before a picture is snapped, and the 1.5 seconds after the photo is taken. Using 3D Touch, the whole picture comes to life in a 3-second video. Live Photos is offered only on the Apple iPhone 6s or Apple iPhone 6s Plus, and using iMessage, they can be zapped between owners of the two newest iPhone models.

If you were looking to use a social media app to send out your Live Photos to some of your friends and relatives, that was impossible until today. An update to microblogging app Tumblr now brings support for the feature, along with support for 3D Touch. Press down on the Tumblr icon from your iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus home screen, and you will be able to search Tumblr without having to open the app.

The best part of Tumblr's support for Live Photos, is that the user doesn't have to own an iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus in order to view it. You do have to have an iOS device, however. On Tumblr's Android app, Live Photos show up as a frozen image.

The update to Tumblr's iOS  and Android apps add the ability to message a post to any Tumblr. A new paper plane button allows you to "toss a post" by clicking on the button, and its new messaging feature is now available for everyone.
