Unofficial Amber ROMs leak for two Nokia Lumia models

Unofficial Amber ROMs leak for two Nokia Lumia models
If you're an impatient type and can't wait for the Amber update to hit your Nokia Lumia 820 or Nokia Lumia 920, unofficial ROMs of the update have leaked for both Nokia Lumia models. Keep in mind that there are plenty of risks involved, especially since you will need to wipe all data off of your phone. And once you do install the ROM, there is a good chance that you will miss out on the official update when it does roll out.

The ROMs include both the GDR2 update from Microsoft, which adds the FM radio to the phone along with the Data Sense app. The latter keeps track of your data usage, telling you which apps are using most of your monthly allowance, and also reminds you how many days are left in your billing cycle.

The Amber update, for Nokia phones only, includes the Smart Camera app which offers the Action Shot mode. This allows you to snap an action sequence and have it come out on one photograph. Amber also brings the always-on clock and the double tap-to-wake feature among others.

You can find the ROMs for the Nokia Lumia 820 and Nokia Lumia 920 below, along with instructions on how to install them. Again, if you're not sure what you are doing, your best bet is to wait for the official release.

Give it another 5 years it will become like Android. Let alone it has to catch up with iOs ®

Are you suggesting that WP will become as insecure as Android in five years from now? I certainly hope not! I don't like sharing my personal information and credit card No. with the rest of the world, via open source hacking!

so much ignorance in this comment. You realize you use open source software every day when you utilize the internet right? PHP? Apache?.....which is much more secure than windows server....

And honestly? I'd rather use open source, because it's the only way I know it's safe. You might not understand the code, but you can bet your @$$ someone somewhere does, and is checking it for vulnerabilities to help improve it.

Android certainly isn't secure - stop denying the obvious.

nokia ruins itself with wp. nokia models could sold more than now if they used android. I am not anroid fan but they should have used the android or meego. Nokia shouldnt insist on wp, they can use android also.

if you are not getting paid for kissing so much WP8/Nokia butt, then you are not bright enough... Google pay everyone of us in Android and iOS with rich, useful and helpful apps across the ecosystem... Many of the apps and tools that Google offer to its user help them save money and/or time Such as: - Drive/Docs - Maps & Navigation - Gmail - Goggles - Hangouts and so on...

You also forgot to add "back door master-key" to the list of goodies that Google included in it's Android OS.

Oh yeah how could I forget... Maybe because it was fixed from Play Store in 1 day? and I have yet to see a victim of this issue...

you mean we don't get : - skydrive/ Microsoft office for free the best and most used - nokia map/navigation supported in way more countries - outlook way cleaner and more secure - vision comes integrated with wp same thing Skype , I get a better experience overall on something original no a copy.

The office you get for free is hardly useful. Seriously, how much work do you expect to get done on a 4 inch screen? On a phone, Office is hardly a big plus.

Many of the apps and tools that Nokia offers to its users to help them save money and/or time, such as: -SkyDrive and built-in Microsoft Office, the best Office suite available (hence why they're called "Office" suites) -HERE Maps and Drive (free, offline, and available on multiple platforms, and also powering many car OEM navigation systems) -Outlook.com email, which soundly beats the bejeebers out of gmail -CityLens and Bing Vision -Skype and so on. Not to mention beautiful, durable, attractive devices with a smooth, fast, and easy-to-use OS that doesn't beg for tweaking every five seconds.

wow, so many people offended by my comment... about 5% of people offended by it right? Anyway its nice how you go and defend WP8 when it still lacking as a whole... How useful is Office when you have no File Manager... how about a Task Manager to help you out with your multitasking... What about laying in bed and wanting to stop Auto-Rotation... How about a notification center that you can quickly look it up... (not crappy tiles) How about a unified Search across the device... To all the people that took personal my post (5% of smartphone users) I was only citing Google features that add up the experience on an Android phone... on top of that you have the largest Application store where you can increase the phone's flexibility with specific tools that you cant find in Windows... On top of that you get software that manufacturers do to also enhance the experience and if you dont like it, you can switch or root... I was not praising Samsung, or any other manufacturer in specific... but the Android user gets a real choice on Hardware and tons of software.. It is sad to see that today the "COPY" OS, and the "COPY" apps that you can get from the Play Store are usually better than the originals... BTW I use Windows 8 Pro in my Notebook, and its fluid and responsive, but it has many usability flaws still... (hoping for 8.1 to fix)

"-SkyDrive and built-in Microsoft Office, the best Office suite available (hence why they're called "Office" suites)" That's not why they're called office suites (and I'm sure you know this, it's because people use them mainly at the *office*). "-HERE Maps and Drive (free, offline, and available on multiple platforms, and also powering many car OEM navigation systems)" I'm a man, so I don't ask for directions either way (I get lost easily, to. But my pride won't let me ask for directions, dang it!). :P But it's always good to have options, right? Choice is always a good thing. "-Outlook.com email, which soundly beats the bejeebers out of gmail" Opinions and options, aren't the wonderful? "Not to mention beautiful, durable, attractive devices with a smooth, fast, and easy-to-use OS that doesn't beg for tweaking every five seconds." Some would argue that customization is the reason people like android (though, there are obviously other factors). I personally think of it like the Windows for phones. It's customizable, powerful, and simple to use.

Thanks... I completely agree, and its funny how Android is to phones what Windows is to computers... And Windows Phone 8 resembles more to iOS in a locked down, straight, rigid user interface with little customization options. It really comes down to personal preference and I tend to recommend what suit better to the people around me, be it iOS or Android... Even WP8 if it really fit... but I really dont understand how people who frequent this type of web pages and post regularly, get so hype over an OS with so many disadvantages as of today... Anyway would be interesting to see how many WP8 Users would still be loyal to the OS if hypothetically Nokia started building Android phones today...
