Unlocked Windows 10 Mobile version of Alcatel Idol 4S available from the Microsoft Store

Back in October, we showed you training material for T-Mobile reps that revealed a dual life for the Alcatel Idol 4S. Sure, everyone knew that the handset was rockin' Android 6.0. But when no one was paying attention, the same device was being sold at T-Mobile powered by Windows 10 Mobile. Not only that, but this variant of the phone does include a VR headset that comes out of the box. Actually, to be more accurate, the VR headset is made out of the box.

While the Windows 10 Mobile version of the phone has been available only from T-Mobile in the states, it now can be purchased unlocked from the Microsoft Store priced at $470. If you can't remember the specs of the model, we can run through them again. The Alcatel Idol 4S sports a 5.5-inch display carrying a 1080 x 1920 resolution. The Snapdragon 820 SoC is under the hood, with a quad-core 2.15GHz CPU and the Adreno 530 GPU. 4GB of RAM is inside along with 64GB of native storage. For those seeking additional storage, there is a 128GB capacity microSD slot. A 21MP camera can be found on back, while selfie snappers have an 8MP front-facing camera at their disposal. Keeping the whole shebang powered is a 3000mAh battery.

The Android version of the phone has a higher resolution 1440 x 2560 display, and features the Snapdragon 652 SoC under the hood. It also has a smaller 3GB of RAM and 32GB of native storage. And the rear-facing camera weighs in at 16MP.

If you're interested in the unlocked version of the Windows 10 Mobile powered Alcatel Idol 4S, you can visit your nearby physical Microsoft Store. Or, you can click on the sourcelink to visit the online Microsoft Store.

WP10 not worth the high asking price. Better get the cheaper Lumia alternative to satisfy your geek curiosity. It's really a first for Microsoft, a beta evolving mobile OS that are somewhat broken after a full year from release date. WTF Microsoft.

*downvote. Windows Mobile is slowly but surely getting better im sure by 2018 it'll start ramping up with more apps. I've recently been quite intrested in getting a Windows phone. The HP elite x3. Good looking device. This here was also a good find, even though id still like the HP

By 2018... really. Let see whether Microsoft would continue to support WP10 by then. I hope they do as i just dump $200 into it. You should also put your money where your mouth is and get your damn WP10 phone. Hate WP fans that only pay lips service. Yuck!! For me i just state my actual WP10 experience. After the setup hundles, i still get random App crushes like Manga Blaze. There were once, none of WP apps could run without a reboot. Currently running OS build, 10.0.14393.693 let see what an average WP10 users has to say. http://forums.windowscentral.com/microsoft-lumia-950-xl/449652-new-update-out-14393-693-a.html#post3614371 http://www.windowscentral.com/windows-10-mobile-cumulative-update-build-14393594-now-rolling-out-release-preview-ring

Well people are willing to pay the high price Apple asks for. And of course a lot of my friends had ios 10 issues for a long time. These are really for fans who have the money to buy flagships and want flagships. It holds them over while MS works on whatever they are working on. Their project is so huge in scope it's really interesting. Their main goal is really to focus on other things to ramp up the ecosystem. Windows 10 on arm with hybrid laptops with cellular connectivity running on snapdragon 835 and x86 emulation will be a great bridge for developers to focus on apps both for arm/x86 and UWP will let them do that. No one wants their app being emulated as a competitor could build a faster and more intuitive app that conforms to any form factor using better UI that is touch friendly etc... Further the emulated apps will only run when the unit is docked in desktop mode.

Yeah man. Windows Mobile is so great right now. Look at all the features and the snappiness it has. Sharing files and photos on social media are just so quick. Not to mention the apps. The OS is so alive, man.

It has more features than an iphone! Ok WM needs more apps but system/settings/feature wise it is really good! But Noobs like you just don't get it!

Good job calling people noobs. It makes me feel so insecure about myself now and it makes me doubts my judgement on the OS after over 3 years using it. But oh wait. Look at how popular WP is right now. It must be great!

Phone gets good reviews, I like the way it turned out, looking for a device like this to support continuum, which I think is much more valuable than 10 apps deep of the same games and goofy appware found in other platforms. With my current Lumia 1020 running the last first release version for Windows 10 Mobile (runs like a rock star by the way), I've got all the apps I need and am lacking for nothing with regards to apps. Looking forward to using this phone or one very similar to it. The only thing I am missing with the 1020 is Continuum and it's a game changer for me; and will be for many others too.

actually the VR is NOT made from the box.. its a full headset. It sucks and is useless with no apps.. but get the facts straight. Also the Idol 4S, is OK but the 950XL is better. Also the 950xl is tougher. The Idol is delicate.

The 950XL has a better camera, no question. But that's where it ends. Performance-wise, this phone blows it away. I've had both.

I have had both and went back to my 950XL.. the resolution of the screen wasnt close the 950XL beat the snot out of it. It was a tad more stable. But overall the 950Xl is a better phone. Also first time I dropped it ( and it was a small drop in living room ) it shattered the back and the front screen went dead. 950xl has been bullet proof.
