This is the new battery smartphone king of 2019

It's just the beginning of 2019, but the new smartphone battery king of the year has arrived and it's the affordable Moto G7 Power, a phone with a whopping 5,000mAh battery.

And yes, it's not just about the battery size when it comes to battery life, but when you have a 5,000mAh battery... well, it is all about the battery size then.

Motorola's official numbers say that the G7 Power, a phone that costs just $250, will last you up to 3 (yes, three!) days on a single charge.

We wanted to test this claim first-hand and that's why we ran our proprietary battery test that puts all phones in the past five years on the same footing with the same screen brightness and running under the same typical load, so you can get truly comparable values.

...and the Moto G7 Power blew the competition out of the water. This is the single best smartphone that we have ever tested!

As you can see from the chart right above, no flagship phone comes even close to the affordable Moto G7 Power in terms of battery life. And that might be an understatement because the reality is that the G7 Power has more than double the battery life of most 2019 flagship phones!

Even the iPhone XR, one of the phones that is praised for its battery life, has almost half the battery life of the G7 Power.

More than DOUBLE the battery life of current-day flagships!

And when you compare the G7 Power to the Galaxy S9, LG V40 or Google Pixel 3 XL, you would notice that the Moto phone has nearly three times longer battery life!

Isn't that just an incredible achievement?

We think it is, this phone definitely raises the bar for smartphone battery life in a huge way, and all of that at a super affordable price!

Since this phone easily beat 2019 flagships, we had a tougher challenger for it: how did it compare to the battery life hall of famers, the most long-lasting phones we have EVER tested?

Well... it kicked ass even in this heavy-weight division.

The G7 Power had a much longer battery life than the closest runner-up, the Xiaomi Mi Max 2, a tablet-phone hybrid with a gigantic 6.44" display and an even larger 5,300mAh battery, but the Moto beat that phone as well.

Interestingly, third in our all-time best battery life rankings is the LG X Power, a cheap phone from 2016 with a 4,100mAh battery cell and the obviously very power-efficient base-level Snapdragon 212 chip.

Easily beats all battery champions from the past

Then come the Moto E5 Plus and the BLU Studio Energy, another pair of affordable phones.

Quite interestingly, the only true high-end smartphone in our battery life hall of fame is the recently released Huawei Mate 20. The Mate 20 comes with Huawei's own Kirin 980 chip, Android's first 7nm chip that rivals the Snapdragon 845 in terms of performance, while the phone itself comes with a 4,000mAh battery on board.

So there you have it: the new smartphone battery king has arrived and it is the affordable Moto G7 Power. It beats all other phones easily in the battery department, it costs just $250 and it's coming to the United States this spring.
